Something To "Mitch" About

Image result for tom izzo argument

--We are down to the Sweet 16 in March Madness. How's your bracket?

One of the big stories emerging from the first weekend was Michigan State coach Tom Izzo yelling at one of his players to the point that the two sides had to be separated from one another.  Izzo, who is one of the best at his craft, was criticized for this act.  Again, is this how soft we have come.  Can a coach not yell at his player when he has done something wrong?  Is Izzo supposed to just give him a pat on the back and say do better next time?  If its the latter, I don't want that guy being my coach.

There is a time and a place where coaches have to be demonstrative to get their point across and if that means some heated conversation so be it.  If we are going to sit here and get upset over a coach screaming at one of his players for doing something wrong than it is once again a time where we need to start pushing the needle back the other way if you ask me.  It was interesting to note that the player in question and athletes didn't get into the Izzo criticism and that it was just the snowflakes who want everyone to join arms and sing Kumbaya,

--Still with March Madness.   As CBC's Peter Mills put out on Twitter moments after Duke somehow survived to win their 2nd round game against University of Central Florida,  Chris Best (Duke alum) is the only one who gets to celebrate that win. Anyone else is pure evil.   Chances are the Dukies don't get challenged again for the rest of the tournament---although hopefully Michigan gets a chance

--How sad is it that the two most dysfunctional franchises in the NHL are in Canada.  Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators are a complete and utter tire fire, but we all know the Edmonton Oilers aren't far behind.  Bob Nicholson looked realllllll bad with his criticism of Toby Rieder late last week.  Speaking of the Oilers, former GM Peter Chiarelli has been spotted in St. Louis sparking talk that he soon could end up with the Blues. Any NHL team employing Peter Chiarelli as anything higher than the guy putting out game notes deserves everything they get.

--It is said in Edmonton that the Oilers are having a tough time retaining season ticket holders and corporate sponsors because of the way this season has gone.  Can you blame people for this? They have obviously had enough..  Wouldn't it be nice if Daryl Katz (and owners of other pro sports teams that are consistent losers) said to his fanbase and sponsors that ticket prices and sponsorship packages are cut by 25 percent this year with a caveat that they go up again by 15 percent if the team ends up in the playoffs next season.  Do something to show your supporters you are serious.

--The Lethbridge Hurricanes fired the first shot this season when they picked up Jake Leschyshyn and Nick Henry from the Pats in an attempt to strengthen their team and win a WHL championship.  I don't know if the Canes have the horses to compete with Prince Albert, but if the first two playoff games against Calgary are any indication the move was a successful one as those two have scored five of the team's seven goals.  A Lethbridge-Prince Albert Eastern Conference final would be fun to watch.  So would a Hurricanes-Blades matchup.

--I just want to make sure I have this right.  "The Arkells" asked the CFL to move a Tiger-Cats/Argos game--the home opener I believe so that people can go to one of their concerts just a stones-throw away from BMO Field and the league along with TSN said OK.  Maybe the Arkells should play a part in the CBA talks.  Do "The Reklaws" have the same pull?

--Good on Braden Holtby and other members of the Washington Capitals who don't wish to go to the White House today.  Its their decision and it is one that should be respected no matter what political way you lean.

--Chelsea Carey finishes out of the playoffs at the World Women's Curling Championship. It is the first time Canada has missed the playoffs at the event in 20 years.  It is being said Canadian curling fans are being too rough on Carey for missing out.  Apparently, fans of the game are no longer allowed being allowed to criticize our rep for not meeting expectations . Hey, I'll be the first to tell you that Canada is no longer expected to win or medal at every international curling event, but don't try to tell me I'm not allowed to voice my displeasure for what was a poor performance by the group.  I didn't see all the games, but in some of the ones I saw the Canadian rink was godawful for whatever reason.   Again, the needle needs to be pushed back a little or we just start handing out participation ribbons for those who don't go to the playoffs.

--Orange Vanilla coke?  No thanks!

Scruffy, so you're upset because you can't criticize Team Canada in curling!

Hell it's been that way for years around here when it comes to the Riders. Question anything about the Riders and the next 10 postings call you an idiot or a bandwagon jumper.

There are coaches who yell just for yelling and don't really teach anyone anything. One can see that and the act wears thin.

All one has to do is look at Tom Izzo's track record and they will see there is nothing wrong with his coaching style.

Ummm, Mitchy, I can guarantee you that the Arkells are by far more popular than the CFL in Southern Ontario.

THEY SOLD OUT the Scotiabank Centre! Can't say the Argos have gotten 20K (unless for playoffs or Vs Riders) for quite a while...

I think Anon 1 needs to read your bit on Carey again.

I am with you. If I watch, I am free to voice whatever criticism I want. Her rink's performance in Denmark was sad. You can't tell me if Robin Silvernagle or Curt Myers had gone 2 and whatever at the Scotties and Brier that people here wouldn't have been upset.

You take the good so accept the bad.
