There are numerous reports out there that the Riders have signed free agent defensive back Paul Woldu. Nothing has been released from the football team though. The Regina product, who went to school at the U of S, has been with the Alouettes since they took him in the 2008 CFL draft.
On another matter, there is a rumour out there suggesting the Riders are the front-runners to land free agent offensive lineman Brendan Labatte and that an offer of somewhere between 175-200 thousand dollars has been made.

Koch Heads To Edmonton
The Edmonton Eskimos have signed free agent wide receiver Cary Koch the club announced today.
Koch (6’-0”, 198 lbs) spent the past two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 8 regular season games as a rookie in 2010, the Baton Rouge, Lousiana native had 21 catches for 299 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 57 yards in the 2010 Grey Cup game in Edmonton. Last season, Koch caught 15 passes for 133 yards in 9 regular season games.
In announcing the signing, Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "Cary missed much of 2011 with an injury, but within the football fraternity his talent is widely recognized. We really like is how Cary approaches the game when he isn't the primary receiver. He runs every route full speed and he blocks extremely well, too. Championship clubs do all the little things right and Cary certainly fits that mold."
Koch started his college career at Tulane, but in the aftermath of Hurricaine Katrina, transferred to the University of Virginia.

Flory Stays In Montreal
The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday the signing of non-import guard Scott Flory to a new three-year deal.
Flory will be back for his 14th season with the Alouettes in 2012. The 35-year-old CFL veteran was twice named the league's most outstanding lineman, in 2008 and 2009, while also helping the Alouettes win three Grey Cup championships, in 2002, 2009 and 2010. He played 221 games in the CFL, all with Montreal, and has been an East Division All-Star for ten years running.
Last season, Flory was an integral member of the offensive line which helped the Alouettes lead the league in total passing yards, total points scored, and points scored per game. The Alouettes offensive line conceded just 34 sacks in 2011, tied for second-lowest in the league. Running behind Flory and his teammates, Brandon Whitaker lead the CFL in rushing in just his first year as a starter.
The Alouettes also announced the signing of 28-year-old import defensive end Copeland Bryan to a two-year deal with the club. Copeland racked up 21 tackles and two sacks during three seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions.
The Alouettes also announced the release of import defensive tackle Eric Wilson who recorded 54 defensive tackles in his five seasons with Montreal.

NHL Three Stars Of Week
The Phoenix Coyotes have re-emerged as a Stanley Cup Playoff contender in the Western Conference, and perhaps the biggest reason why is the NHL's First Star for this past week.
Mike Smith's recent heroics in goal earned him the honor, announced Monday by the League. Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins once again finds himself in the mix as the Second Star, while a big scoring week for St. Louis Blues forward David Perron led to him being named Third Star.
The Coyotes surged past a pack of fellow contenders and into the West's No. 8 seed by winning all four of their games last week, extending their overall streak to five in a row. Smith has been in net for all of those victories. In defeating Detroit on Monday, Dallas on Tuesday and Calgary on Thursday, Smith allowed just a single goal in each game, stopping 81 of 84 shots. He punctuated his spectacular week with a 38-save shutout performance against Chicago on Saturday. Smith posted a .975 save percentage during the four games.
Malkin's third five-point outing in less than two months highlighted his most recent high-scoring week. In this case it was the weekend that earned Malkin his nod, as he scored a goal and assisted on four others as the Penguins outscored the Jets 8-5 on Saturday afternoon. The next day, Malkin both started and capped their four-goal rally to beat the Lightning. For the week, Malkin had three goals, five assists and a plus-6 rating. Malkin extended his NHL-leading point total to 69, and his 32 goals are second only to the 37 scored by Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos.
Perron's honor is a feel-good story, as he was coming off a 20-goal season and had five goals in the Blues' first 10 games last season before a concussion sidelined him for more than a calendar year. When he finally got back in the lineup, he had been limited to four goals in 26 games before this past week. Perron had his first multi-goal game of the season against Ottawa, including the game-winner, and had the tying score in a shootout win against New Jersey. Another multi-goal effort plus an assist followed against Colorado, and Perron capped his six-goal, seven-point week by lighting the lamp against San Jose.

Brink Re-Signs With Bombers
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are pleased to announce that they have re-signed import quarterback Alex Brink (6-3, 216, Washington State, DOB: June 2, 1985 in Eugene, Oregon) to a new contract, avoiding free agency with the third-year pivot which is slated to begin next week.
“Alex has shown tremendous progression in his short time in our league and gained a ton of experience on the playing field last season,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack. “He is very well liked by his teammates and possesses tremendous leadership qualities both on the field and in the locker room. We look forward to having him back in Winnipeg as we continue to develop our young stable of quarterbacks.”
Brink saw playing time in eight games last season, including making two starts, and completed 89 of 140 pass attempts for 1,023 yards and five touchdowns against four interceptions while also serving as the team’s quarterback during short-yardage situations. He recorded 148 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground last season.
“I am very happy about returning to the Blue Bombers where I am surrounded by great teammates and coaches,” said Brink. “The opportunity I have in Winnipeg is one I’m excited to be a part of and will allow me to continue to get better as a quarterback in the CFL.”

Upon graduation from Washington State, he left the Cougars as the school’s all-time leading passer with 10,913 yards, 76 touchdowns and 848 completions on 1,451 attempts.
