The Calgary Stampeders have taken tailback Joffrey Reynolds off the free-agent market.
The CFL club signed Reynolds to a contract extension Friday. Reynolds was slated to become a free agent next month.
“Joffrey is a key part of our team and we're delighted to have him back,” Stampeders head coach and GM John Hufnagel said in a statement. “He is one of the premier backs in the Canadian Football League and his production speaks for itself. He is the model of consistency and professionalism.”
Reynolds ran for a league-high 1,404 yards last season to capture his second straight CFL rushing title. He was named the West Division's outstanding player and was the runner-up to Montreal's Anthony Calvillo as the league's top performer.
Reynolds, 30, enters his seventh CFL season as Calgary's second-leading all-time rusher with 7,536 yards, trailing only Kelvin Anderson (8,292).
Gotta wonder what he got? If the Stamps broke the bank for Joffrey, that doesn't leave much cap space for the other guys. Jermaine's and Ken-Yon's ego may be bruised by not being paid like Reynolds.
