Where Were You?

An acquaintance of mine told me Monday night he didn't get a chance to watch Sunday's gold medal hockey game or even listen to it. He was travelling and his wife (not a sports fan) didn't want to listen. Thus he says whenever someone asks him for his memory of Sunday, he will say in a car listening to CD's with his wife somewhere between Regina and wherever.
Another friend of mine had watched the game while flying home from Toronto. He said the plane landed just as the overtime started and the pilot came on saying no one had to go anywhere because the TV was staying on. He also said it was the strangest disembark he had ever had since everyone was cheering as they walked into the airport.
I was set to go out Sunday afternoon, but the plans I had fizzled so I ended up watching the game from the same place where I watched the Grey Cup---the comforts of my couch. I will ask you where you were and what happened at the moment Crosby scored and Chris Cuthbert uttered a phrase we will hear for years.

I was at the Press Box. When Parise scored, you would have thought someone had died as it was so quiet. When Crosby scored, the place erupted. I high-fived so many people and hugged many others that it was ridiculous. We were all so happy and we were all wearing Canadian colours. It was a feeling I've never experienced before and this comes from someone who bawled his eyes out at Skydome after the Rider win in 2007.

I was at the Three Kings Pub in London, jam packed with other Canadians. The place went crazy!
The BBC commentators just didn't cut it tho. Sure was missing the regular crew.

At a house party. It was complete bedlam when Crosby scored. We scared our friends dog so bad when Sid scored that she ran and hid under the porch. No one noticed for about 20 minutes. It took another 15 to coax her out. Its a day I won't forget.

    Hey Mitch,

I was at the travelodge in Saskatoon at my daughter's 9th birthday party.

My wife was gracious enough to give me some time to watch. I was sitting in our hotel room and I was pretty much going to walk out when he scored.

The funniest part was the hotel is on a few different delays with cable. When he scored, I yelled. Then a few seconds later someone else (a maid I think) yelled, then a few seconds after that someone else yelled, then a car honked, then another. It was pretty cool.

I was in Boston Pizza South. The same place where I was in 02 when they won. I remember talking to you and some cute blonde (your wife?)in the first intermission. Anyhow, like it was in bars across Canada, there was absolute mayhem. Some guy spilled his beer all over me, but I couldn't care less. I think a couple of guys snuck out amongst the celebration without paying, but what can you do. When it was over, me and some buds went down the Lewvan waving our Canada flags.

    Mitch's wife isn't a blonde!

Way to go, Darrell. I guess Mitch will be staying with you the next few nights?

  7. My wife isn't blonde Darrell, but it was 2002 so all is good. She knew who I was with that day!

I was at home playing with my 4 year old son. We were both dressed in our Canada shirts. I was trying to teach him the art of "Canada scores...Canada wins the game!" He did well pumping his fists in the air when the golden goal was scored.
