Pats Lose Opener

Dawson McAuley has had better nights and so have the Regina Pats. A sold-out crowd "rocked the Red" Saturday night as the Pats opened up their best of 7 first round series with the Brandon Wheat Kings with a first period they would rather forget. The Wheat Kings jumped out into a 4-0 lead as the combination of giveaways and some shaky goaltending by McAuley put the visitors in control.

Pats coach Malcolm Cameron had no choice than to put in backup Tyler Fuhr after the 4th Brandon goal and he responded as he closed the door allowing the Pats to make the deficit 4-2, but Ryan Pulock then showed why he is the one top blueliners in the league and why the New York Islanders drafted him in the first round. With the Wheat Kings losing momentum, Pulock took the puck at his own blueline and skated through the Pats defence tucking one behind Fuhr on a highlight reel goal to basically salt it away.

The Pats played the game without Dyson Stevenson (broken hand) and Daniel Wapple (lower body injury). After the game, head coach Malcolm Cameron would not say what their status is for Sunday's Game 2 nor who his starting goaltender will be.

Sunday's Game 2 starts at 7 o'clock at the Brandt Centre. 620 CKRM will have the game along with another one hour pre-game show starting at 6.

Austin Wagner and Patrick Damico were horrible tonight--especially Wagner. Watch him on the 2nd goal. McAuley certainly wasn't on his game, but he can't take all the blame.

So you go to the hockey game and then come home and turn on the TV. Doesn't matter which channel all you can see is American college basketball. That game was invented in Canada and I'm mighty ashamed of that fact but why are Canadian cable providers trying to brainwash us? I hate basketball, why is it on my TV every channel I go to???American college basketball should be somewhere behind Peewee hockey in Canada.

Pats had Brandon on the ropes until Pulock's goal. Game 2 will be a battle. Regina needs to win it or they are done.

I turned on my TV last night when I got home and saw the Calgary-Edmonton game. My wife was upstairs watching a movie and I think both Global and CTV ran a newscast. That wasn't basketball. It would appear someone is a little grumpy. Settle down fella!

Wagner and D'Amico were just two of 19 players on that team that were bad. The only one that wasn't is the kid who should start in goal tonight.

One game does not make a series. Holy negativity!

If Cameron starts Fuhr tonight, the Pats win. They were the better team in the 2nd and 3rd period last night. Completely agree with you on Pulock's goal being the dagger.
