Canada Is Off To The Semis

Canada has finished undefeated in group play at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship after a 4-1 win over the host Russians this morning.

The Canadians took advantage of a five minute major in the first to take control of the game as Dougie Hamilton and Mark Schiefiele scored to give Canada a lead they would not give up.

Other Canadian goals came from Jonathan Drouin and Jonathan Huberdeau--his was in an empty net.

The win means Canada gets a bye into the semi-finals. The quarter-finals will see the USA vs the Czechs and  the Russians against Switzerland. Sweden won the other pool and gets a bye to the semis as well.

Canada's next game is Thursday morning at 3 AM our time against an opponent to be determined.
