Women's Basketball (U SPORTS Ranking: No. 1) – The Cougars jumped up to the number one ranking in the country after 85-48 and 72-69 wins over Manitoba on the road last weekend. With four players averaging double-digits in scoring, Regina will open up the home schedule this weekend with a pair of games against the Fraser Valley Cascades.
Cross Country – The Cougars will finish off the 2017 season this Sunday at the U SPORTS Championships in Victoria. The U of R will send a full team on the men's side, led by returning All-Canadian and fifth-year veteran Adam Strueby. The team also consists of fourth-year runner Marc Turmel, third-year harriers Alex Eiswerth, Greg Hetterley, Matthew Johnson, and Quinn Legare, and second-year runner T.J. McBride. Tianna Dodds will be the lone runner for the U of R on the women's side.
Men's Basketball – The 2017-18 Canada West regular season will meet the CKHS for the first time this weekend as the Fraser Valley Cascades (1-1) are in town. The Cougars split a pair of games with a tough Manitoba team last weekend, falling 84-73 on Friday before taking an 89-87 win on Saturday thanks to a last-second shot from Alex Igual.
Men's Hockey – The Cougars return to action this weekend following the conference-wide bye week, as the Manitoba Bisons are in town. Regina sports a 1-6-1 record to this point, after being edged by No. 1 Alberta at the end of October. The Cougars and Bisons met twice in the pre-season, each taking a game in Winnipeg.
Rams Football (U SPORTS Ranking: No. 9) – The Rams' comeback bid fell short in a Hardy Cup semifinal last Saturday, as the UBC Thunderbirds held on for a 28-21 win over the visiting Rams. Atlee Simon set a Rams playoff record with 222 rushing yards in the losing effort. Rookie linebacker Nick Cross was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year on Thursday morning.
Women's Volleyball – The Cougars shocked the No. 1-ranked Alberta Pandas last Friday, taking a thrilling five-set comeback win at the CKHS. Alberta responded with a win the following night, as the Cougars sit at 2-4 on the season. Rookie hitter Jessica Lerminiaux leads the Cougars with 76 kills on a team-high 227 attacks. Regina will visit Mount Royal University this weekend for a matchup with the 3-1 Cougars.
Wrestling (Men's U SPORTS Ranking: No. 9 / Women's U SPORTS Ranking: No. 4) – The women's team competed at the Simon Fraser University Clan Invitational on the weekend, capturing three podium finishes. Olivia-Ann McDonnell placed second in the 72-kilogram class, while Amber Wiebe (50kg) and Inga Hammer (76kg) both finished third in their weight classes. The Cougars will have a weekend off before both the men's and women's teams are back in action for the Cougar Invitational on Nov. 18.
Swimming – Seven Cougars hit U SPORTS standards at the Colleges Cup in Vancouver on the weekend, including Bree Crookshanks who shattered the U of R record in the 200-metre breaststroke. Etienne Paquin-Foisy, Lexy King, Georgia Kaluznick, Eva Madar, Jong Hoon-lee and Noah Choboter also hit national standards. The next action for the Cougars will be the Canada West Championship, hosted by the University of Victoria from Nov. 24-26.
Women's Hockey – Regina is back on the ice this weekend after the Canada West bye week, set to take on the Manitoba Bisons. The Cougars (4-2-1-1) enter the weekend with same amount of points as No. 6 Manitoba, after splitting with the top-ranked Alberta Pandas two weeks ago in Edmonton. Jaycee Magwood and Bailey Braden lead the way for Regina with four goals and three assists apiece.
Men's Volleyball – The Cougars fell to 0-6 on the season after losing two tightly-contested matches with No. 8 Alberta last weekend. The Golden Bears took 3-1 and 3-2 wins over the Cougars, who will refocus for road matches against Mount Royal this weekend.
