Sports' Biggest Day Has Arrived

After two weeks of hype, its time to play some football. The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints will meet in Miami to see who gets their hands on "The Vince" tonight. Its the biggest day in sports as millions across the world will watch Peyton Manning battle Drew Brees. You have seen this game analyzed from every angle and it continues this morning with ESPN and the NFL network doing their pre-game shows with CBS jumping into the fray later.
Many are expecting this game to be an offensive shootout and I can see that, but while the last two Super Bowls have come right down to the end before being decided, I can't see that happening today. Peyton Manning (aka Johnny Touchdown, the CEO of quarterbacks) is in a zone. He is the best quarterback out there today and while I won't say he's the best of all-time(that honor goes to Joe Montana)he is top 5 for sure with that status maybe getting elevated by day's end.
The Indy offence is just too strong. Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, unknowns Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, Joseph Addai are guys that Manning gets the ball to. The Jets took away Wayne and Clark last week and it didn't faze Manning one bit. The Saints don't have the secondary the Jets have. I see Indy winning this one by 10 or more in a game that will end I say 35-23. If Indy should win, the only thing that will have beaten them this year is themselves. You have to think they would have had the perfect season had it not been for the decision to yank starters.

Where are you watching the game today? The Press Box and the 4 Seasons both will be packed as will other locations throughout the city. As much as I want to see the game, I want to see the American ads and I want to play a game that is only played on Super Bowl Sunday. Try this one out if you are with a bunch of people today. Take an empty beer mug---each person at the table throws in a loonie. The mug is in front of person A for the opening kickoff. If that play doesn't result in a score, the mug moves down the table to person B. It keeps moving around the table until there is a score. That person then gets the money and you ante up again. If the quarter ends, you ante up. Depending on how many people you have, your pockets can be a jingling and a jangling at night's end. It gets real interesting when someone forgets and the guy keeps the mug knowing a score is coming.

I have six buddies in Vegas for today's game. They went to the UFC bout last night and they are heading off to a bar today in which its 200 dollars to get in. The plus being that from noon until the end of the game, everything(drink and food is free). I'm thinking this is the beginning of "The Hangover 2" and I have to wonder if all of them will be able to stagger back to their plane tomorrow when it leaves. Even at 5 bucks a drink, I don't know if they can make their 200 back can they?
------
Speaking of Vegas, I love some of the prop bets they have for today's game. For instance, will Raptor Chris Bosh have more points and assists than Peyton Manning has pass attempts today or what will be more---Ovechkin and Crosby goals compared to field goals kicked today. Who thinks of these? What's the over/under on the national anthem?
-----
Some of the ads today include C.Montgomery Burns hawking Coke, a man who builds a house out of his empty Bud Light Cans(this could be a friend of mine), Golden Girl Betty White for Snickers and the 85 Bears doing another version of the Super Bowl Shuffle for what I think is a phone company. Wherever you are, I hope you can see the American ads. If you are watching the game on CTV, I get the feeling your eyes may be glazed when all is said and done with you uttering the words "I Believe" over and over again.
------
"The Messiah" comes through for the Pats. Jordan Eberle scores one and sets up another in the final two minutes to pull his team into a tie. He then assists on the game winning goal in overtime by Mitch Spooner to give Regina a much needed 5-4 win over Kootenay. Regina is now 5 back of 8th place Moose Jaw. The Warriors start what will be a huge seven game road trip in Kootenay on Tuesday as they start their West Coast trip. This race might not be over yet.
------
I didn't see UFC 109, but Randy Couture won the main event beating Mark Coleman and from what I understand looked pretty good in doing so.
----
To get you warmed up for football, how about Ovechkin vs Crosby on NBC. If that doesn't work, how about Jennifer Jones going after another Canadian title against the young pups from PEI as the Scotties winds up. I'm sure they will be watching that one in Swift Current seeing the winner will represent Canada at the Worlds in Speedy Creek. If its PEI, I wonder if Lee Jones will put on a little extra cologne after seeing the 3rd and skip that the Islanders have. They might not know what they are walking into!

Have a good Sunday. Enjoy the football game!

"I have six buddies..."

Liar!

Couldn't resist. It was a hanging curve right over the middle of the plate.

Colts win but by less than TD.
There are more than two sports bars in this town, I wish you and Peterson would realize this. Then again, if they are lining your palms with free food and drinks why not?
Curling---who cares!!

When the chips were down last night, Eberle came through. He may have saved Regina's season with his play in the final 5 mins and OT.
