Chamblin Closes Practice (At Least Some Of Them)

Shortly after Riders practice started today, a letter from coach Corey Chamblin was issued to reporters and I believe some of the railbirds who attend each and every practice. The letter went as follows....

On behalf of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club I would like to inform you that we will be closing Day 2 and Day 3 practices to the public, effective tomorrow (Wednesday).

It has become apparent that some individuals attending practice sessions have created a competitive disadvantage by posting intricate personnel and play schemes on message boards.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders want to ensure fans that their support is appreciated. However in the team's best interest, Day 2 and Day 3 practices will remain closed until a solution is found that meets everyone's needs.

Sincerely,
Corey Chamblin
Head Coach
Saskatchewan Roughriders

Once practice was over, Chamblin talked about it. I could post that audio, but for some reason the site I use to do that is not working. However, the ever-able Rob(Slim) Vanstone transcribed it all and it can be read right here. Thanks Rob.

I applaud Chamblin for this. These idiots on the fan boards don't realize how much they are hurting the team when they put some of the things on there that they do. Good job Coach!!!

I don't have a problem with this.

Oh no!!! What will your buddy Bingo Arms say about this. Someone can tell me because I have better things to do than to visit Riderfans.com. Those posters, a least a majority of them, should have a capital "L" stamped on their forehead.

Is this called controlling the message? Can we still boo Durant when he throws an incompletion or is a letter on that coming too. What a joke! Wake up Chamblin and realize you are alienating a fan base that pays your salary.

Oh great, this will give these idiots a soapbox to stand on.

Good on Coach Chamblin..
You'd be hard pressed to find 100 fans taking in practice regularly during the season. So really, who are you alienating..?

However, if I was one of the old fellas who show up every day just to enjoy the workouts and watch the drills being run...I guess I'd be pretty choked. So I'm sure the true railbirds would like a chance to give a smack upside the head to the loser who's posting plays online.

How do you spell paranoia??

C-H-A-M-B-L-I-N

Are you kidding me? What a joke! Concentrate on winning some games instead of what fans are talking about on a fanboard.

This is the same turkey that chose to make the league's most passionate fans wait longer than any other fans to find out who made their team. The release wasn't out until Sunday afternoon when the cuts had to be made on Saturday. Then he decides to close practice and talks of the team winning only 3 cups in 100 years, like we needed to be reminded of that. I predict that by season's end he will have alienated every person in the province and when he and his boss are let go there will be a giant yahoo heard province wide.

Good job Coach Chamblin. Your integrity was compromised and you took action.

Hey BB:

Get used to this. There's a new sherriff in town and he isn't going to let the local yokels like yourself try and control things. The fans of this team are simply too radical and they hurt the team by doing stupid things like this. Chamblin isn't fooling around. He wants a championship. I'm guessing you are one of the idiotic posters on that idiotic site that does nothing but create negativity.

Right on Coach!!

BB,

"He made us wait?" Seriously? That's the best you can do? Get a life. You only reinforce the stereotype that there is absolutely nothing else to do in Saskatchewan.

Holy Cow BB, I hope you didn't waste your Saturday sitting around your computer with your fellow losers at RF.com waiting for the cuts to be announced. I thought one of your many posters would have had the entire list since they so often beat the media to stories.
Chamblin says this isn't an issue with other teams. Why is that? Its because fans in other centres have a life and aren't obsessed with what 53 men are doing at Taylor Field. GET A LIFE!

Only in Saskatchewan would this be a problem. I want this team to win just like everyone else does, but I don't want to see our plays and what we do in practice basically given away. This is like scouting for the opposition. Its wrong! Is it fair that all are being shut out because of this. Yes! However, because of some this happens. I don't like the move, but I understand it.

Steve and Brad, I agree with what you say.

Practice is for the team. Game time is for the fans. I don't know why some are making a big deal about this.
