A Legend Says Goodbye

The Weyburn Red Wings have announced that head coach Dwight MacMillan has resigned his position effective immediately thus ending one of the greatest coaching careers Canadian hockey has seen.

In February of 2008, McMillan joined Scotty Bowman and Brian Kilrea as coaches to win 1000 games. He won two national championships and a handful of SJHL championships along with taking his team to the SJHL final many other years including last year where his team was beaten by the Humboldt Broncos.

With the Wings sitting in last place in the Sherwood Conference, the decision was made to step down.

Sadly because he didn't do his thing in major junior or the pros, Dwight won't be seen in the same light as Kilrea or Bowman, but he is just as good if not better. I can't imagine what Weyburn will be like without his involvement.

The league should get Dwight to replace the idiot in charge now. I guess I'm probably preacching to the converted though right Mitch.

Heard the show tonight and I completely agree with you on the league's lack of action. A guy with a distinguished record like Dwight gets a 5 line release and its one written by the club. Bill Chow proves once again why he is an embarassment to this league and his lackey Mike Stackhouse can sit right there with him. You were obviously too good for the SJHL because the info in the year you were there was second to none. You get what you pay for I guess. Shameful!

Dwight deserves every honor that is bestowed on him. He is a legendary coach and Weyburn was lucky to have him for as long as they did. I hope the Red Wings give him the salute he deserves.
