Beatty Leaves La Ronge

One of the top coaches in the SJHL is leaving to head west.

Bob Beatty has resigned his position with the La Ronge Ice Wolves after nine years. He is off to Cowichan Valley in the BCHL where he will guide that franchise.

Beatty led the Ice Wolves to back-to-back SJHL championships in 2010 and 2011.

The SJ loses two outstanding coaches in one year--Mac and now Bob. He was that team in La Ronge. I can't see them lasting much longer.

Much like our better players head elsewhere to play than stick around the SJ, now coaches bolt too.

Bring on the SJHL bashers. They all seem to know everything.

Is this the beginning of teh end of the Ice Wolves? Do they re-surface in Warman?

Didn't Beatty sign a 5 year deal in LaR? How does he get out of that?

Warman would be great!

The SJ is highly inferior to the BC league. Take a quick look at the number of scholarship doled out. >100 versus <20... And it has been that way since Christ was a cowboy

You think it's inferior? Go play a shift in one of those games. That league is a very tough league, and you have to be tough to play in it. By the time an SJHL team makes it out of their league it's a borderline war they've gone through.

How long should Beatty stay in LaRonge? Should he put in 30 years like McMillan got in Weyburn only to get his ass fired in his farewell season? When it's time to change it's time to change and it's a guy's pure motivation why he wants to move onto a new environment.

Scholarships determine whether the league is more successful? Is that how it's graded. How many guys on an AJHL/BCJHL/MJHL team get a scholarship, and who is to say if a Player even wants to move onto NCAA hockey. Some guys like playing hockey and when it's over it's over and they move on in life.

I honestly think there are people that would like to see the SJHL fold and then where would those kids play hockey? You should support and advocate for all levels of hockey in this Province whether it's Junior B, Junior A or even WHL.

Y'er Welcome

Big loss for L.A. and the Wolves

I played in both leagues, so I have a pretty good idea.

The travel is not conducive to quality hockey. Give a college scout a choice between flying into Vancouver or Regina in January to watch hockey.

No protected list in BC. Quality crowds in excess of 1500-2000 on many nights.

I played in Salmon Arm when we had 2 1st round NHLer's and 3 others drafted that year. Probably heard of Travis Zajac?
