Tambellini Out, McTavish In As Oilers GM

The Edmonton Oilers have fired general manager Steve Tambellini and promoted Craig MacTavish to take over for him.

In addition, former Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson will take over MacTavish's now former role as senior vice president of hockey operations.

Tambellini was in his fifth season as Oilers' general manager after he was hired on July 31, 2008. MacTavish served as the Oilers coach from 2000-09 and was brought back into the organization this season in an executive role.

Howson was hired by the Oilers as a pro scout last month. He was the Oilers assistant general manager from 2002-07.

KLowe has to go too. He's responsible for this mess. Yes, they are getting better, but they should have been a playoff team this year.

Scott Howson is a disaster. Why would he be given a position again?

The Oilers bringing MacTavish back is akin to the Riders bringing Richie Hall back in 2011. That worked out well, didn't it?

Love him or hate him, Brian Burke brought in most of the players that Toronto is going to win a playoff spot with. The Oilers just move the chairs around ensuring they all have lifetime jobs. As soon as they fire the coach a couple times, eventually re-fire McTavish, I assume that Scott Howson will emerge as the GM. Once they wake up and fire Lowe then Howson by natural order be promoted to Lowes position. A since fired Krueger will resurface as the GM. That's how it works in Edmonton. Eberle, Hall and Nugent-Hopkins will have moved on to other teams that will properly utilize their talent. That is after Lowe and crew try to vilify them.

As a lifetime Oilers fan since 1978, I have had it with Kevin Lowe destroying the Oilers franchise.

This Is reminiscent of higher management meddling when Mr. Roy Shivers put all the necessary parts together and built a championship football club 2007 and someone else to took the credit. Difference Is, Lowe and company should be duly fired based on resulting non directional on Ice product that Is not producing the desired results of a consistent winning professional hockey franchise.
