CHL To Ban European Goalies

This will get the debate going.

The Canadian Hockey League is apparently ready to ban junior teams from selecting European-born goaltenders. The CHL is seeing that they are perhaps allowing Euro goalies to learn the game and prosper while Canadian goalies sit on the sidelines. With Canadian goaltending being an issue at the World Juniors over the past few years, this is a move that will allow junior teams to develop Canadian goalies instead of those with a European descent.

I know many won't like this, but I do.

Then we need to make sure the Coach's kid plays 2nd line minutes and on the powerplay.
..C'MON best players play...no Nepotism? Racism? Whateverism? (not sure if that is the right word)whether Euro, American or otherwise.
...Actually isn't that worse for Canadian goalies that struggle knowing that their confidence can get blown earlier if they weren't watching/learning from a better foreign goalie and get replaced by another Canuck as a team searches for "the guy"
-I will say the Euro has to come over on his own dime and treated similar to other prospects before the team takes over to help assimilate.
...dangerous slopes..may puts big dent in World Junior tourney, Summit Series or any other thing the Euro's decide to retaliate with.

Complete crap and it's pure xenophobia.

The way I see it if a goalie isn’t good enough for the CHL, then he probably wasn’t developed properly or enough in Bantam/midget.

Guess we better eliminate international goalies from coming here for those bantam and midget spots too, oh wait there is none.

CHL can be changed to Commie Hockey League. Canadian content rules haven’t helped music and television quality in Canada, it definitely won’t help the goaltender development problem in Canada either!

There are maybe what 6-8 starting goalies in the CHL that came from the Euro draft? Out of 132 goalies I don't see the conspiracy theory or the problem at all. Ban those few goalies if you want, I doubt it will change much. The ban should go greater. If you use two euros then you get 3 overage spots. If you use one the you get 4 overage spots and if you use none, then you get 5 spots. Every season there are many high end 20 year olds who have to play Tier 2 or go university. The talent in the CHL is watered down and extra older players would bump up the quality of play. That would ensure the quality of play got better and the CHL remained pretty much North American.

Finally they do something right.

Why stop with goalies?? There shouldn't be any Euros in the CHL.
