U of R Rams need new Head Coach--Mike Gibson resigns

The University of Regina Rams announced Sunday afternoon that Mike Gibson has resigned as head coach, effective January 31.
Gibson has accepted a position as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Edmonton Eskimos.
“In his short time with the organization, Coach Gibson had a positive impact on our program in the areas of player recruitment, academic excellence, and strengthening the partnership with the University,” Rams president Dan Johnston said. “We thank Mike for his hard work and wish him and his family the best in the future.”
Gibson returns to the Canadian Football League after one season as the head coach of the Rams. Edmonton will be his sixth CFL stop, as he’s also held positions with Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Calgary, and Ottawa.
“I’m incredibly disappointed to see Mike go, but this is a wonderful opportunity for him and his family,” said Curtis Atkinson, acting athletics director for the U of R. “I have great respect for the job he’s done here in a short period of time and believe he had a profound impact on our student-athletes and the institution. Mike has an outstanding work ethic, passion for the game, and he does things the right way. He’ll be missed.”
A national search will begin immediately for Gibson’s replacement.

Mr. Atkinson:

You might be the only person disappointed to see Gibson go because many in the Regina football community are not. To whoever helps hire the new guy, do a complete search and don't fall for the flashiest resume.

Thank you!

Agree with the anonymous user who said Rams deserve better.

Mike Gibson is nothing but a two faced weasel!

Gibson couldn't clean up mess Frank left behind. He may have left a bigger mess. THunder coach seems like a logical replacement, but I thought that first time around and it didn't happen. There's no way Mueller is coming back from Calgary.

Dan Johnston should remove himself as president of the Rams. His incompetence in hiring this guy, who most knew would jump ship when an opportunity came, has set the Rams back years. One of the best group of Grade 12 grads Regina has ever seen and not many are going to play for the Horns opting to play the Huskies instead. Thanks Dan!
