What Did You Miss Saturday?

Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols looks on as Saskatchewan Roughriders' Willie Jefferson runs for the touchdown after intercepting Nichols' pass in the second quarter Saturday. (John Woods / The Canadian Press)</p>

--Interception returns by Willie Jefferson (97 yards) and Sam Eguavoen (103 yards) in the first half helped the Riders to their 4th straight win as they beat Winnpeg 32-27.  The Riders are now 7-4 on the season, but there is some concern again with the health of Zach Collaros.  The quarterback absorbed a huge hit in the 2nd half and left the game as he underwent the concussion protocol.

--Defences were not existent in Edmonton as the Eskimos held on to beat Calgary 48-42.  Mike Reilly threw for 391 yards and three touchdowns while running in three for the Eskimos while Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 491 yards and four touchdowns.  He just about threw a 5th on the game's last play, but Juwan Brescacin had the ball slip through his fingers and to the turf on a Hail Mary play.  Edmonton is 7-5 while Calgary is 9-2.

-- Jeremiah Masoli had his ninth 300-yard passing performance in 11 games as Hamilton sailed past the Argos 36-25 to kick off a CFL tripleheader. Brandon Banks had 153 yards and two touchdowns for the Ti-Cats who are now 6-5.  The Argos are 3-8.

--Jorge Lopez was close to perfection on Saturday, but still walked away with the best start of his young career. After eight perfect innings, Lopez walked the leadoff batter in the ninth and surrendered a hit to the following batter in a dazzling 4-1 win over the Twins at Target Field. Bret Saberhagen had thrown the most recent no-hitter by a Royals pitcher when he blanked the White Sox on Aug. 26, 1991, and Lopez nearly hurled the fifth in franchise history. Kansas City has never had a perfect game.

--Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams in U-S Open final to become the first player from Japan to win a major singles tennis title. But the feat took a backseat to an argument between the 23-time major champion and the chair umpire. Williams was penalized a game for calling Carlos Ramos a thief and demanding an apology after he initially warned her for receiving coaching, which is not allowed during Grand Slam matches.

Just a crazy football game. Worried about Collaros. All the good that has been established over the last month may have been wiped away.

Love Big Willie, but I can't be the only one who was thinking Leon Lett on that play. High-steppin from the 40?

#7 is still Weston Dressler to me and the current #7 should be benched for his classless showboating but the most shameful thing this weekend was Serina Williams. Are they related?
