What Did You Miss Saturday?

--The Riders went to Winnipeg and got smoked.  The Bombers beat the Riders 31-0 in a game that saw no scoring in the second half.  In other CFL games, the Eskimos got back on track as they beat Ottawa 34-16.  Bryant Mitchell had 13 catches for 190 yards and a TD for the Eskimos.  In Calgary, the Lions upset the Stamps 26-21 in what may have been Wally Buono's last appearance at MacMahon.

--Justin Turner's two-run homer in the 8th gave the Dodgers a 4-3 win in Game 2 of the NLCS.  The series heads back to LA all even at one.  In the ALCS, Houston knocked off Boston 7-2 in Game 1. Game 2 goes Sunday.

--Vancouver Canucks rookie Elias Petterson left Saturday's 3-2 win against the Florida Panthers in the third period with an injury and did not return. The 19-year-old was taken hard into the end boards, then slammed to the ice by Panthers defenceman Mike Matheson and needed assistance from the trainers to the locker-room. Matheson was not penalized on the play.  Canucks head coach Travis Green says its a play the NHL needs to get rid of.

--Austin Watson's girlfriend is taking blame for the incident that led the NHL to suspend the Nashville Predators' forward for 27 games, a punishment reduced to 18 games by an arbitrator on appeal. Jenn Guardino issued a statement Saturday saying the incident on June 16 was not an act of domestic violence and that Watson would never hit or abuse her. "My behaviour and state of intoxication lead to the police being involved that day," Guardino said. "I have struggled with alcoholism for many years and I am actively involved in AA. I am fortunate to have Austin's continued support with my treatment. We handled matters poorly on June 16th and know that we need to make better decisions going forward."

--Football Hall of Famer Jim Taylor is dead at age 83. The Green Bay Packers great scored the first rushing touchdown in Super Bowl history. He won four N-F-L titles and was the league's most valuable player in 1962. There's no immediate word on the cause of death.

Congratulations Chris Jones, you've finally got the offense, defense and special teams all playing equal.

Worst Riders game I have seen in years. No positives to take from that at all.

While the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were scouting, recruiting and signing Chris Streveler Chris Jones was betting $430,000 on an 0-12 quarterback.

I'm glad I didn't drive to Winnipeg to sit there in my green hoodie and watch that display.
