Riders Extend Taman's Contract

Saskatchewan Roughrider President/CEO Jim Hopson announced today the contract extension of General Manager Brendan Taman. The new one-year extension will see Taman continue in his role with the organization through the 2013 season.

“This extension was always important for the organization, but both sides wanted to make sure the coaching staff and roster was set for 2012 before we got this done,” stated Hopson. “We feel Brendan has significantly increased the talent level of this team and has helped put together one of the top coaching staffs in the CFL led by Corey Chamblin.”

Taman is entering his third year as General Manager of the Riders and fourth season since returning to the club in 2009. Taman took over complete control of the football operations department in November of 2011.

“I am very grateful for the vote of confidence shown to me by Jim Hopson and our Board of Directors,” stated Taman. “I understand the expectations that go along with this job and am confident with the team we have put together for this season.”

Prior to returning to his home province of Saskatchewan to work for the Green and White, Taman spent ten years working in the Winnipeg Blue Bomber organization, the last five of which were as the team’s General Manager and Vice-President of Football Operations.

He spent the 1997 and 1998 seasons as the Director of Player Personnel with the B.C. Lions. Before that, he spent four seasons (1993-1996) as Assistant Director of Player Personnel with the Roughriders. From 1989-1992, Taman was Operations Manager for Football with the Ottawa Rough Riders. His first stint in the CFL was with the Green and White in 1987 when he was hired as a player personnel assistant.

Did the football team at the same time announce a new deal with a napkin dispenser?

Smart move by the team. Chamblin and Taman are tied together to 2013. If they succeed, keep them around. If not, ship them out.

Sad, sad news.

I find it odd that they do this without the team having played a game. Why now?
