This And That

The Regina Rage will play their first home game Saturday night when the Toronto Triumph invade the Brandt Centre. I will admit I am surprised that the Lingerie Football League will play a down in Regina. When the news came out that the league wanted to put a team in the Queen City, I knew there would be a great deal of backlash, but the league has done things in a dignified manner and the team is ready to strut its stuff Saturday night.

Kylie Rossler (#10) is one of the Regina girls on the roster. She spoke to the media Thursday morning about the league and the controversy surrounding it. Here is what she had to say....

When Rossler says "At the end of the day, if you don't like what you see, then don't come and watch" is the exact thing that should be said. Go out and have an enjoyable Saturday night at the Brandt Centre. Just like anything else, if you like it, you'll be back. If you don't, you will spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. Its as simple as that.

I am guessing the Riders coaching staff have been preaching that the scoreboard goes back to zero on Sunday afternoon on Winnipeg and that what happened here on Labour Day is a thing of the past. There is no way the Riders can embarrass the Bombers on their home turf the way they did here is there. Well, the answer is sure they can, but I don't see them winning by 52. Winnipeg will want to show their home fans that they are much better than the team that was at Mosaic. The worst thing for the Riders is to leave for the Manitoba capital thinking they have two points in the bag. This team took Edmonton lightly in the season opener last year and look what happened. I think enough guys are still around to remember that and that it won't happen again. I really don't see Winnipeg winning though. Can you imagine what would happen if they turned the tables and won by 52? I don't want to think about it.

----

How much does the Rider Nation drive the CFL when it comes to TV numbers. Take this! Each week, TSN asks viewers to select their game of the week for rebroadcast Tuesday night on TSN2. You had a entertaining game between BC and Montreal that came right down to the end while the Argos-TiCats and Stampeders-Eskimo game went down to the last play before being decided. Howeer, when it came time to show the "game of the week", it was the Riders-Bombers game. That's a tad sadistic if you ask me, but it also sends a distinct message as to how strong the Rider Nation is compared to the fanbases of the other teams.

-----

The anger over the Greg Carr trade by some surprised me. Carr is an established receiver who the Eskimos wanted during the off-season. I don't know why he fell out of favour in Edmonton, but getting him for a guy that didn't want to be here (Matt O'Donnell) is to me like getting a freebie. As Winnipeg writer Scott Taylor said on the Sportscage Wednesday, the three biggest free agents at the start of the year outside of Andy Fantuz might have been Carr, Dominic Picard and Brendon Labatte and all three of those guys are now wearing green. Some have even complained about Brendan Taman getting rid of a Canadian draft pick. Ummmmmmm, the Riders got one back in the deal too.

Its time for another round of radio ratings. Remember when you are listening to Regina radio that you should be listening to Regina radio and not Saskatoon or Edmonton radio. Seanna and Evan Baran come to you right from beautiful downtown Regina as do Greg Morgan, Colin Lovequist and Ryan Schultz. Speaking of Regina radio, I heard Ryan Seacrest on one of the stations Sunday night and he was talking about the Olympics wrapping up this weekend. What??? Might want to make sure the right program is running.

-----

Why am I not going to Miranda Lambert tonight? GRRRRRRR!!

-----

How enjoyable would the baseball playoffs be without the involvement of the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. It could happen.

-----

NBC's Cris Collinsworth made the following statement during the NFL season opener on Wednesday night. "Tony Romo might be playing the best game of his career.". Really? I'm not a Romo fan, but he has played a lot of games better than his season opener on Monday. That's a bit of a stretch there Cris.

-----

I know Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is rich, but this is a little ridiculous don't you think? This almost reminds me of Conrad Pewterschmidt and his son in law Peter Griffin. Conrad would make Peter do this and I guess Jerry would too.

-----

With the NFL season starting, here are some predictions for you

AFC Division Winners -- Patriots, Ravens, Texans, Chiefs
Wild Card Teams -- Broncos, Titans

NFC Division Winners -- Giants, Packers, Falcons, 49ers
Wild Card Teams -- Seahawks (yeah I said it), Bears

Super Bowl -- Packers over Texans
------

I wonder how much business Tim's Souvlaki would get if he wasn't in the Golden Mile. If he was in the Cornwall Centre or a mall that gets a little more traffic, he would be swamped. That's a hidden little jewel when it comes to Regina's best. He's been there for years and I'm guessing he isn't going anywhere.

-----

How about the performance of Graham DeLaet on Thursday at the BMW Championship. He tore up the course in shooting an 8 under 64 to have the clubhouse lead after 18 holes. Keep it up Graham. Just another example of an athlete doing Saskatchewan proud----LOVE IT!!!

------

Never make the same mistake twice....do it five or six times just so that you are 100 percent certain! Have a great Friday and an outstanding weekend!

Good on these women for playing football. However, leave the lingerie for the bedroom and play in real equipment.

If the Riders lost a game by a score of 52-0, anarchy would occur in Regina. It would be some kind of ugly when a portion of the fan base already hates the GM and QB just for breathing.

Besides Gormley coming out of Saskatoon, what comes out of Edmonton?

Does DeLaet have to place in a certain spot to move on to the finals next weekend? This whole FedEx Cup thing confuses me.

One couldn't blame the Riders if they took Winnipeg lightly this weekend. How could you not? Its up to Chamblin and the coaching staff to remind these guys that what happened last week was a memory and that its this week that counts. I still see a double digit win in their future.

Crash and Mars from Z99 do their show from Edmonton and pretend its from Regina. Its just a huge crock. I don't listen to Z anyways, I listen to WOLF and of course the Sportscage Mitchy!!

DeLaet has to be in top 30 to qualify for the weekend. Right now, he is close, but not quite there. A top 5 finish might do it depending on who finishes above him.

Looking for a great year from the Pats. They finally have a great coach ,GM, and a excellent scouting staff. I hope Conacher is here for along time and he puts a couple banners in the rafters of the brandt centre.

The Titans?

I don't care if Z99 does all their programming from Regina, Edmonton or wherever. Its too bubblegum for this cowboy. Its the WOLF or Country 100 for me!

Couldn't care less about the Rage. End of story!

Hey Scruffy:

I know Derek Watson is in Saskatoon, but where are the rest of the cronies that made up Rock 94. Best station Regina has had in a long time. Don't really understand why they Jacked it, but whatever. I'm a WOLF guy now.

I'm going to the Rage game. I'm not expecting a lot, but I hope its a good Saturday night with the boys. If I like it, I'll be back. From that pic, I think I'll like.

@ Derek

Toffan is in Hamilton, Jeff Allan is in Kitchener where believe it or not he is their version of Gormley. Vinnie is in Red Deer, Dani Rohs (the one who gave me the Scruffy moniker) is in Edmonton. That's about it I think.
