Ottawa Stocks Their Roster In December 2013

Sportsnet's (and CKRM Sportscage insider) Arash Madani has put it out there that the new Ottawa franchise in the CFL will stock their roster in an expansion draft on December 12, 2013.

While it is more than a year away, the existing 8 CFL teams will be allowed to protect six Canadians and 10 Americans. Each squad also can protect only one QB. Ottawa can select an American and two Canadians from each team. If it picks a QB from any team, that team is allowed to protect two more Canadians. The remainder of the Ottawa team will be made up of college draft picks and free agents.

Let the debate begin across the league as to what players teams should be keeping and who they should expose. What is obvious is that this team if the draft is done right should be a competitive one immediately.

There are going to be some good football players--particularly Canadians let go. I don't know if that's right or not allowing Ottawa to be strong right from the get go.

I realize another year has to be played and I don't know who is or who isn't a free agent, however, here are the Canadians I would keep on the Riders

Best, Butler, Evans, Getzlaf, Heenan, Hurl, Labatt, Shologan, Picard. That's nine and you can only keep 6. Who goes? YIKES!!!
