Riders Send Messam to Calgary

The Stamps picked up Saskatchewan Roughriders' runing back Jerome Messam (33) in a trade Wednesday.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have traded national running back Jerome Messam and the fifth round selection in the 2016 CFL Draft acquired earlier in the day to the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for national kicker Tyler Crapigna, a 3rd round selection in the 2016 CFL Draft, and the rights to a negotiation list player.

Crapigna (5’7” – 166) was originally drafted by the Stampeders in the fifth round (40th overall) in the 2014 CFL Draft. The McMaster product graduated as the CIS all-time leader in field goals with 84.

To Saskatchewan:
National kicker Tyler Crapigna
3rd round selection in 2016 CFL Draft
Negotiation list player

To Calgary:
National running back Jerome Messam
5th round selection in 2016 CFL Draft (acquired by Riders from Montreal on Oct. 14)

Now this trade just plain ridiculous.

What is ridiculous about this when Messam apparently had no intentions of wanting to play here next season? Sounds to me like O'Day got some good value for this guy. Would you rather him play at the chance of getting a 3rd win and let him go next year for nothing?

I hated this trade until O'Day explained it with you and Rod tonight. I had no idea he was a free agent and it sounds like he wasn't coming back. Hate seeing him go to Calgary, but getting what we get is better than nothing.

I'm guessing there couldn't have been any takers for Dropslaf? Not that surprising though! Who would want him. Riders can't cut him soon enough as far as I am concerned,
