CFL Draft Goes Sunday Night With Riders Holding #2 Pick

The future of the CFL will be showcased Sunday night as the 2017 CFL Draft is held starting at 5 o'clock Saskatchewan time.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold the first pick overall as a result of the trade that sent quarterback Drew Willy to the Argos last season.  If what Sportscage insider Arash Madani has reported is correct, they will take 24 year old defensive lineman Faith Ekatitie.  The Brampton, Ontario native has been playing at the University of Iowa.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are scheduled to pick at number 2.  It will be their first of nine picks in the draft.  Whether or not, the team holds on to the pick or trades it is another story though.

Earlier this week, head coach, general manager, and vice-president of football operations Chris Jones said he has fielded numerous calls from teams looking to trade up.

Jones added his staff have done numerous mock drafts, and he feels the team is very well prepared for what will happen.

As for what position the team will look at with the number two pick should they hold onto it, Jones won't tip his hat saying there are several different options.

As mentioned, the team holds nine picks as of Sunday morning.  Besides number 2, they also hold picks 11, 30, 32, 37, 46, 55, 57 and 64.

They forfeited their 3rd round pick when they took Kevin Francis in the 2016 supplemental draft.  They received picks 30 and 57 in the trade which sent Justin Capicciotti and Xavier Fulton to Hamilton last year and they received pick 32 from the Montreal Alouettes in the Darian Durant trade.

Here's hoping they don't draft another manitoba product! Packaging dumski along with the # 2 pick and other picks for some tried, true and tested players in a block buster trade. Let's go riders, let's go!
