Its Now Official!!!

Blue Jays general manager J-P Ricciardi has now proven it. Without a shadow of a doubt, the man is a complete and total buffoon. He has allowed one of his better ball players to leave for absolutely nothing and free agency has nothing to do with it.

Alex Rios is now a member of the Chicago White Sox. After claiming him on waivers, the Jays decided to let Rios go without getting a player in return. What a brilliant move!!!! Are you going to tell me that Ricciardi couldn't work out some kind of trade with the White Sox? He couldn't get a couple of prospects for a player whose best years are I think in front of him. The guy has now proven his incompetence. He tries to say this move gives them financial flexibility. Are you going to tell me that getting a couple of prospects in the minor leagues--prospects that wouldn't be on the payroll was impossible?

Yes, this has not been a good season for Rios. He is hitting 264 with 14 HR's and 62 RBI's. He is a much better player than what he has showed this year. The organization gave up on him. Letting him go for nothing is a huge mistake. Hopefully for Toronto's sake, its one that spells the end of JP's tenure.

Losing a young talented outfielder for nothing. If this doesn't keep Halladay around, I don't know what does. This idiot needs to be fired immediately.

Mitch,

You forgot to mention that a mere 18 months ago, the Giants were apparently willing to deal Tim Lincecum to the Jays straight up for Rios and JP kiboshed it. The same Lincecum that won the Cy Young last year, started the all star game this year, leads the NL in strikeouts and ERA (a nifty 2.20 for what it's worth) and is 3rd in wins. it takes a pretty special guy to lose Rios and Lincecum and have nothing to show for it. I can only assume that JP has pictures of Ted Rogers doing awful things to people to still be employed. If I ran the Jays, I'd have fired him for the circus he created out of the Halladay sweepstakes. Every single day the guy was in the media yapping about how the deal was going to happen or wasn't going to happen or this, that or the other thing.

I have no problems with Rios leaving, but I have a big problem with him getting away for nothing.
Any guy on a major league roster that goes to another team for nothing is a huge mistake. Huge mistake=JP's tenure with this team.

JP has screwed this team up beyond belief. I've said before that players are assets. When you have a chance to flip or upgrade assets then you must do it. Rios has been utter garbage this year, and there was no way they could get anything for him. Wells is in the same boat. Both are not clutch performers. The reality is Rios was for lack of a better term a $60M mistake. Name another profession where you make a $60M mistake, and keep your job? If this doesn't seal JP's fate then less that 15 months from now when Halladay leaves via Free Agency that will. This is a different topic, but anyone who follows the Jays can realize it is a sinking ship. There is no way a 32 year old stud like Halladay is going to sit through another rebuilding project. The team is having ownership issues, and JP is gone in February 2010. This team will go the way of the Expos I'm convinced of that.

Let's remember...they guy's still got almost 70 RBI's, and will hit more than 20 home runs. There's still plenty of ball left to be played, too. He'll be a star in Chicago. And we got NOTHING in return. JP = Moron. JP should = FIRED.
