CALGARY -- Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import quarterback Michael Bishop has signed with the club. As per league policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Michael is a veteran in this league and he instantly adds depth to our quarterback position,” said Hufnagel. “There isn’t much that Michael hasn’t seen in his eight years in this league.”
Bishop has played in 124 CFL games over eight seasons with Toronto, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg. His CFL rights originally belonged to the Stampeders and were traded to Toronto in 2002. Bishop was in Toronto from 2002-08 and was a member of the Argos when they won the 2004 Grey Cup. Bishop joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2008 and signed with Winnipeg in 2009.
During his career, Bishop has thrown for more than 11,000 yards and has 66 touchdowns. He also has nearly 1,400 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
Bishop was a standout in college, posting a 22-3 record in two seasons at Kansas State and finishing second in Heisman Trophy voting in 1998. He established a school record with 2,844 passing yards and had 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions that season.
