The Kardiac Kids

One night after a comeback for the ages, the Regina Pats were back on Brandt Centre ice as they took on one of those teams that they should beat handily--the Prince Albert Raiders. The Raiders are the worst team in the Eastern Conference so you would think the home side should have an easy time in getting the two points. Nope! The Raiders fought tooth and nail with Regina, but in the end the fans at the Brandt went home happy as Brandon Davidson scored with 21 seconds win to pull out the 4-3 win.
The victory moves Regina ahead of Saskatoon into 6th in the East with 5th place Kootenay just a point back and 4th place Calgary just four back. Could the Pats get hot enough at the end to secure home ice advantage in the first round. They might. Your next chance to see them is Wednesday when Brandon comes back and I'm guessing they are still reeling after what happened Saturday night.

In all likelihood, Ben Heenan will be the number one overall draft pick by the Riders. I don't know how the team could not take the Saskatchewan native who is basically by all accounts, a young Gene Makowsky who could have a Makowsky-like career. However, Wilfrid Laurier wide receiver Shamawd Chambers turned a lot of heads at the CFL evaluation camp. The 6 foot 3, 219 pound receiver would look awfully nice replacing the now vacated Andy Fantuz. In the end, I'm guessing Taman still takes Heenan, but how tempting must it be to think about Chambers and how he could fit into the Saskatchewan offence.

Global TV's Derek Meyers brought up a very good point while watching the Canada West womens basketball final at the U of R Saturday night. After wondering aloud if U of R mascot Reggie Cougar had come down with a bad case of mange (not a Reggie fan), Meyers said "What is it with you and mascots? You don't like Reggie and you don't like Worksafe Bob either." He's right. If the truth be known, Worksafe Bob creeps me out. However, let it be said that I love Gainer and I have nothing but high regard for K-9.

Is Scott Manners turning heads at the Brier or are people saying wait till he starts taking on some of the heavyweights. Manners is 2-1 and is right behind Alberta's Kevin Koe at the Saskatoon event. If he and his rink have built some confidence over their start, you just don't know how far they will get. I can't see them winning, but did anyone in Saskatchewan see them winning the provincials?

The Seahawks have signed running back Marshawn Lynch to a new four year contract. This is nothing but good news for the 2012 NFC West champs. What?
-----
The Leafs may not have any Ontario-born players on their team, but they have 11 Canadians. The Oilers have 15 including goalie Devan Dubnyk, who it says is from Regina. Is he? This is the first I've ever heard of this. This means the Oilers have four players from Saskatchewan on their team--Eberle, Nick Schultz and Darcy Hordichuk are the others. Does any other NHL team have four Saskies on their team?

What would Simon Cowell say if he sat in the audience and watched some of the Telemiracle performers? As I said in the post before, it is amazing how this province rallies up and finds the money to make Telemiracle a success. A 1.46 million dollar donation doesn't hurt, but to collect almost 6 million is one of the reasons why this province is so great.

There is a post on Riderfans.com asking who is the worst ever Rider that was a starter? There are so many good, good candidates. Has Charles Thomas gotten a vote? OLE!!!!!!! Someone has mentioned Joey Jauch.

Tiger shoots a 62 in the final round and he didn't win. If he does that at the Masters, he will. I don't think he will.
------
U of R womens basketball coach Dave Taylor is one of my favourite sports people in the city and he has been for a long time. Before the Canwest final against UBC, he tweeted that he was 0-4 in Canwest finals. After the game, I jokingly tweeted him that there was a Marv Levy joke in here somewhere. He tweeted me back immediately that he now has a new nickname since he is 0-5 in the big game---that nickname A-Rod! LOVE IT!!!

Exhibition baseball games are underway in Florida and Arizona. When is the first Jays game on TV? When is the first Cubs game on TV?

Lets get radical! Lets see BT draft Heenan and then trade Best, Wheelwright and a 2nd to Edmonton to get the number two pick and take Chambers. Lets see BT do something with Tillman.

Yes, I understand this likely won't happen.

Vanstone is on that Chambers kick now. I hope the media doesn't start advocating the "sexier" pick by taking a receiver instead of a lineman who will be a stud and a fixture.

Dominique Dorsey. There is no debate. Worst free agent signing the Riders have ever made.

Dorsey wasn't a starter.

Worst starter in recent memory has to be Jason French. Although a pretty strong case could probably be made for Nealon Greene, just on the basis of the quarterbacks we let get away because of that guy!

Good call on Charles Thomas Scruff. He was always good for two holding penalties a game. Can I throw QB's like Kevin Mason, Heath Rylance and Marvin Graves into the equation?

Stew Fraser....yes he was a starter...before Farragalli was released. Fraser was eventually replaced by Reuben Berry disciple Leroy Campbell.
