NHL Three Stars Of The Month

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber and Florida Panthers center Jonathan Marchessault have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the month of October.

FIRST STAR - CONNOR McDAVID, C, EDMONTON OILERS

McDavid paced the NHL with 5-7-12 in nine games to power the Oilers (7-2-0, 14 points) to the top of the Pacific Division and Western Conference. He registered at least one point in six of his nine appearances, including four multi-point performances as well as consecutive three-point games to open the season (Oct. 12 vs. CGY: 2-1-3, Oct. 14 at CGY: 1-2-3). McDavid also notched a pair of game-winning goals (Oct. 12 vs. CGY, Oct. 28 at VAN), tied for second in the League. The 19-year-old Richmond Hill, Ont., native has 21-39-60 in 54 career NHL outings. His average of 1.11 points per game ranks fifth among active players, behind only Sidney Crosby (1.33), Evgeni Malkin (1.18), Alex Ovechkin (1.15) and Jaromir Jagr (1.14).

SECOND STAR - SHEA WEBER, D, MONTREAL CANADIENS

Weber led all defensemen with 4-6-10 in nine contests to guide the Canadiens (8-0-1, 17 points) to first place in the League standings, highlighted by a seven-game winning streak to close the month. He also paced the NHL with three game-winning goals (Oct. 20 vs. ARI, Oct. 26 at NYI and Oct. 29 vs. TOR) as well as a +12 rating. Weber recorded at least one point in seven of his nine outings, including three multi-point efforts. The 31-year-old Sicamous, B.C., native has 170-283-453 in 772 career appearances since making his NHL debut in 2005-06. Only Duncan Keith (84-381-465 in 842 GP) has more points among defensemen in that span.

THIRD STAR - JONATHAN MARCHESSAULT, C, FLORIDA PANTHERS

Marchessault shared the League lead with six goals and tied for third overall with 11 points in nine games to lift the Panthers to a 4-4-1 October (9 points). That included at least one point in seven of his nine contests, highlighted by his first career three-point performance Oct. 15 vs. DET (1-2-3), first career multi-goal effort Oct. 27 at TOR (2 0-2) and a pair of game-winning goals (Oct. 22 vs. COL, Oct. 30 at DET). The 25-year-old Cap-Rouge, Que., native has nearly matched his career NHL point total through the first month of the season; he had 8-11-19 in 49 appearances prior to 2016-17.

Wow, did the Habs ever do well in the Shea Weber trade! It helps to have the best goaltender in the world on their roster too.
