Cheap Shot or Not

Its what will dominate Canadian sports shows today. Was this hit by Zdeno Chara on Msx Pacioretty last night a cheap one or not. If you haven't seen it, its nasty...

The end result is truly sickening, but I don't see anything wrong with the play except for where it happened. If that happens just about anywhere else along the boards, it is just Chara taking his man out of the play. You decide.

From the category of DOHHHHHH!!! I sat down last night and watched the online broadcast from Weyburn of Game 3 of the Red Wings-Kindersley Klippers series. The game goes into double overtime. At the end of the first overtime, I walk away from the laptop to do a couple of things and come back a few moments later to a black screen. I came back too late for the start of the 2nd overtime and that overtime didn't last long as Braden Adamyk scored for Kindersley to give them a 3-2 win and a 3-0 series lead.

Great news for Mitch MacDonald, bad news for the Regina Red Sox--maybe. The Regina product, who hit for the triple crown last year, has headed to Florida where he is joining the St. Louis Cardinals organization. The Cards offered him a contract last week and after thinking about it, he decided to give it a shot. Depending on how things go, he might not be back in Regina for the 2011 WMBL season and that will hurt the Red Sox bigtime as they look for another first baseman.

Plus 1 tomorrow. Have we gotten through it or are we being teased some more. I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope this winter is over.
------
Huge game for the Pats tonight. They are in Prince Albert to take on a Raiders team that is tied for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East with Lethbridge at 57 points. The Pats are three back. If they win tonight, they have a good chance at overtaking the Raiders and Hurricanes---although the sked down the stretch isn't favourable. A loss tonight and BRent Parker doesn't have to worry how to squeeze fans into the Co-Operators Centre come playoff time.
----
Pat Simmons plays Kevin Martin and Jeff Stoughton at the Brier today. Simmons is trying to get up there with the big 4 and needs a win over at least one of the two to have a playoff chance. I was asked last night why Saskatchewan can't get over the hump at the Brier and frankly I think its because we just don't have a mens rink that is good enough. Pat Simmons and company are good curlers, but they don't have what it takes to get over that final hurdle and be in the elite category like Martin, Howard, Gushue and Stoughton. It is frustrating and perhaps Pat or someone else has to take that Martin approach and do some out of province recruiting. We will win the Brier again some year, but I just don't know when.

Why is it in the spring and summer, the city puts out signs saying keep cars off the street because of street cleaning, but in the winter time, they don't put out a sign and then come down a street unannounced having to go around vehicles and whatever while doing their thing. Just a thought!

A blog reader that ran into me the other day commented on my pennies for a dome posting. This blog reader is a Saskparty supporter but he said the question he is going to ask his rep in the next provincial election is when is Regina going to start seeing the money Saskatoon has. Has Saskatoon gotten that much more in funding than Regina?

Papa Roach and Buckcherry tonight at the Brandt Centre. ROCK ON!!!

Nothing cheap about it. Chara is trying to ride Pacoretti out of the play and sadly the post comes into play. If that is on the other side of the ice where the posts aren't because of the glass in the penalty box, we aren't talking about this and Chara doesn't get a penalty.

I agree with you on the Saskatchewan curling take. Pat is a good curler but he needs help. The guys around him could get that way but experience and familiarity play a big role. Howard and Martin are the two best rinks in Canada. They haven't changed their teams. They treat the game as if its a 24-7 thing (working out, practicing) and I don't think Pat or anyone else in Sk does that to their level. I said Pat would finish 5th or 6th at the Brier and that looks to be the way it will end up.

No problem with the hit whatsoever. Tough break for the Montreal player, but if you want to fix that put glass all the way around the rink including the players benches.

Martin blew Simmons/Laycock out of the water this morning. Is anyone surprised?

Chara keeps his arm up at Pacoretti's head forcing it into the stanchion. The two had a feud and Chara found a way to win. He will lie and say it was an accident and get two games while Pacoretti misses the rest of the season.

Congrats Mitch. With Pujols leaving at the end of the season, you can just slot yourself in as his replacement. Great news!!!!

If Chara wasn't nine feet tall would be having this discussion?
