Friday Thoughts

I know people are snappy these days and why wouldn't they be when the weather has been crap-tastic. Seriously, enough already!!! I heard last night we've had over 50 days of below average temperatures this winter. GREEAAAT!!  I'm grumpy and it would seem as everyone is --especially listening to the 2nd hour of the Sportscage yesterday. WOWW!!!! Did you catch that? That was GREAT radio! And I'm guessing those involved didn't get bent over and screwed over by SGI the way a certain blogger has been-but that's another story for another time.

At least Amber Holland and company were able to give some people a reason to feel good after their return at the airport. I just hope when they come back as World Champs that the weather is warmer for their reception at the airport.

The World Junior Curling Championships are starting up. If you want to find out what's going on, you can watch CTV's Chris Hodges who is there or you can go to the website.http://www.wjcc2011.com/ . I just hope CTV or Global has the sense to send someone to Denmark for the World Womens seeing we won't get a lot of TV coverage. If the excuse is there that it can't be sold, it translates into the fact that those in charge of selling are too lazy to do so. If you can't sell curling in Regina or Stanley Cup playoffs, there is something wrong.

How much pressure is on Pat Simmons' rink as he starts play at the Brier. Saskatchewan hasn't won a Brier in over 30 years, the winner goes on to play at the Worlds in Regina, we have won both junior titles and the womens crown, etc. etc.. You know I'm rooting for Pat, but like I have said before, just put Martin and Howard in a best of 7 and lets go from there.

Simmons could spoil the party as could Brad Gushue and Jeff Stoughton. When it comes to Gushue, did  he ever get the backlash Jennifer Jones received when he told a member of his rink to hit the road thus allowing Russ Howard to come in to help get an Olympic medal?

Congrats to the Estevan Bruins for a hard-fought Sherwood Conference survivor series win over Melville. Down 2-0 in the 2nd, the Bruins found a way to win it on what they are calling Dominic Perreault's 2nd goal of the game in overtime. It had been credited to Calder Neufeld, but he said after the game it was Perreault's goal. They now head to Yorkton to play the Terriers. Congrats to Jamie Fiesel and his Melville Millionaires as well. The Bruins couldn't beat Melville in 60 minutes in this series and as you know in overtime, its just one shot so nothing says with a break here or there it would have been the Millionaires taking on Estevan. Look for Melville to have a very good team next year.

Global's Heather Anderson told Derek "Duke" Meyers last nite that she was not one of the over one million people who decided to follow Charlie Sheen when he started a Twitter account. So lemme get this straight, Heather follows me, but not Sheen. A tear rolled down my cheek. All I could think of after coming to this conclusion was "winning".

Speaking of Charlie Sheen, I told Rod the other day that with some of his stories, he could be a Regina version of Charlie Sheen minus the drugs and the partying with porn stars. It then clicked in that just a couple of weeks ago Rod was photographed with Ron Jeremy.  The defence rests!!!

Is Omarr Morgan a  plaza of honour candidate. Rod has that up for his poll question. I'm interested to see how the results turn out?

When can Eddie Davis be nominated for POH?

Spring training baseball was on Sportsnet yesterday. I couldn't watch as I looked out the window. I wanted to, but I couldn't.

I have my own ideas to revive the Dome and its one I've spilled over these pages before. I will do it later this weekend. I really think it could work.

Attention Taylor Hall: What the hell were you thinking last night? I don't mind you getting into fights, but don't get i nto scraps with the team's biggest dog. Derek Dorsett is not the person to drop the mitts with.

I don't think my thoughts on the Dustin Penner trade will be answered until I see who the Oilers take with the first round pick from the Kings. The website mynhldraft.com has Edmonton taking Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at number one which I don't agree with. I think they need a good mobile defenceman like Sweden's Adam Larsson. There are a lot of guys in the bottom of the first round they can get, but hopefully its someone who has hands and size.

McDonalds has Shamrock Shakes on sale till the end of the month. I loved those growing up.

With Mike Weir's struggles, it looks as if Canada's PGA hopes are firmly on the shoulders of Weyburn's Graham DeLaet. Where is Stephen Ames these days anyhoo?

I will say it once and I will say it again. If the NFL is hit with a labour stoppage, I am fine with it until it disrupts the season, Doing that will be suicidal for both sides. Surely, they have seen what a labour stoppage did to baseball and hockey. The NFL is the most popular league in the world. They won't or can't  have that change because of their stupidity.

Former CTV Yorkton and Saskatoon reporter Natasha Staniszewski is off to TSN. Whose spot is she taking? Someone told me Jennifer Hedger was about ready to enter the world of motherhood. Does this mean Holly Horton moves up besides Dutchie with Natasha taking her spot, Guess we'll find out.

WARNING: If you ever dream about eating a muffler, prepare to feel exhausted the next morning.

Stay warm, but doing that by hugging that stranger on the bus doesn't count!

My recollection may be fuzzy, but Gushue's 2nd became their alternate for the Olympics. I think they made that change (as a team, including the 2nd) to add Howard for the Trials to have the savvy experience. Then they went back to normal right after.

That said Gushue changes players like most people change socks

The difference is JJ fired Cathy O when they were Team Canada. Cathy had won the accompanying exemptions and didn't get to use them. Kaitlyn had no right to wear her TC sweater. You don't change when you're the National Champ.

Glad I'm not the only one asking that question about Taylor Hall!

Gushue didn't think his rink was good enough so he made the move to get Howard in by switching his 2nd around.
After the Olympics, he told his lead (Korab) to hit the road and brought the 2nd back.
You do what you feel you have to do. Gushue did it and so did Jones. Cathy O was getting up there in age and if Jones wants to take another Olympic run, she felt she needed to get younger. It happens all the time. Get over it people!
