The Drought Continues

Any hopes of a Saskatchewan "grand slam" in curling went out the window in London this afternoon. The Saskatchewan rink skipped by Steve Laycock lost games to Kevin Martin and Jeff Stoughton at the Brier meaning they are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Somewhere Rick Folk smiles----or does he?

Who has put the hex on Saskatchewan's Men's Curling? With the exception of Gerald Shymko (Dad of Yorkton Terrier Goalie Warren) in 1999, our reps have not had that "killer" instinct to rise above the field. What gives???

Isn't Rick a coach for the BC team?

I remember listening to an interview of a former player of Rick Folk's team. He said the biggest problem for Saskatchewan men's teams is this simple. THEY CAN'T MAKE A DRAW SHOT! Let's look at top skips: Kevin Martin, Glen Howard, Brad Gushue, Jeff Stoughton, Kevin Koe -- what do they have in their back pocket -> draw weight. Until there is a Saskatchewan men's team who can use draw weight consistantly the drought will be longer than the 33 years between the Rider's first and second Grey Cups.
