Judge Murray Hinds has granted an absolute discharge in the Eric Tillman case. It means there will be no record of the charge.
The judge saying things like Tillman appears to be remorseful for his actions, registering a conviction would hinder Eric's ability to gain future employment in football and that he is not a threat to society.

Vince, Vince, Vince. Was That Necessary?
I'm guessing "The Score" had its highest ever rating for a Monday Night Raw program in Canada. For the first time since he was screwed over by Vince McMahon at the Survivor Series in 1997, Bret was back in a WWE ring. Like MMA star Georges St. Pierre is now, Hart was an icon in this country a decade ago--especially in Western Canada where many like myself watched him do his thing with Stampede Wrestling.
He got back in the ring at the start of the program and made peace with Shawn Michaels, but it was at the end of the show where Bret and Vince finally went face-to-face. It looked as if the two were going to make up and bury the hatchet, but those who have watched wrestling long enough(like me) knew something was going to happen. It did! Vince went from being Mr. Nice Guy to being the Vince we know and hate by kicking Bret right in the berries. That's how the show ended. We know Bret will be back next week in Minneapolis because he has signed a short contract with WWE that goes through Wrestlemania, but what will happen? That's why wrestling is a "rope" opera ladies and gentlemen.
By the way, the guest host next week is Mike Tyson. Maybe he will act the way he did in "The Hangover". One other note, the WWE had wanted "The Rock" to guest-host, but he said no so they went to Tyson.
Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan made his return (YAWWWWNNN!!!). TNA brought back old fossils like Ric Flair, the Nasty Boys, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman and even Eric Bischoff. This is a group that wants to compete with WWE? Could they not find Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake? I don't really watch TNA, but why would I now. The addition of Hogan does absolutely nothing for that company as far as I'm concerned.

If you are a hockey fan, there is no doubt you will be in front of a TV tonight as Canada meets the U-S in the final of the World Juniors. These two teams can't possibly give us a better game than what they gave us on New Years Eve can they? Can they? Despite what happened on New Years Eve, I believe Canada wins this one going away. They are at home, they know they didn't play well on New Years Eve and I don't think the Americans can play a better game than what they did that night. I really feel bad for Warriors defenceman Travis Hamonic. He separated his shoulder in the win over Switzerland and will miss the game. To go through everything he has and then miss what will and what could be the biggest game of his career is a tough pill to swallow. Oh well, at least he got to wear the green jersey twice! From everything I have heard and read, Hamonic is a great kid. I'm guessing he must be crushed over the fact he can't play. That feeling might be replaced somewhat if a gold medal is placed around his neck tomorrow night. I think it will be.

I don't care who wins the Texas-Alabama game on Thursday. The winner is not the national college football champ. Boise State gets a share of that championship after upsetting Texas Christian 17-10 in a battle of undefeated teams. Many believed TCU would win this one going away because they had tougher opponents and played in a tougher conference. WRONG! Boise State showed they could play with the big boys a few years ago when they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in what might be one of the best football games I have ever seen. They showed it again last night. Its a crime they don't get the chance to play Texas or Alabama. What a great game that would be and you know, Boise State just might prove to be giant-killers again. We really do need a true championship game in US college football.

I've been in an NFL survivor pool all year and I have made it through to the playoffs. Only 7 people remain and there is 17-hundred on the board for the winner. Who do I take this weekend? I'm leaning towards New England over Baltimore just for the fact that the Patriots are at home and the Ravens have to fly back from a tough West coast game in Oakland and then have to hit the road again. If its not New England, then its the Jets, but that big win last night over Cincinnati means nothing and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bengals rebound this weekend. The same goes for Philly and Arizona.
------
I gotta start paying more attention to the NHL. I looked at the standings tonight and see that Detroit would be out of the playoffs if they started today. Has age finally caught up to the Wings? Maybe one of those reasons why I'm not paying attention is the poor play of the Oilers. Even the Leafs have more points than Edmonton. SIGH!!!!!!

EA Sports says they are standing behind Tiger Woods. What will Tiger Woods 11 contain? You can make your own joke! Did you know that EA Sports has made 670 million off the golf game containing Tiger's name. How much does Madden make for EA? Would EA ditch Madden if he got involved in a sex scandal? Madden and sex scandal----you weren't looking for that in the same sentence were you? Yeah, I feel a little nauseous too just thinking about it.

Tillman's Apology
Eric Tillman apologized for his actions today in a Regina courtroom. Here is what Tillman had to say courtesy of the Regina Leader-Post.
“In terms of apologies, I would like to first and foremost apologize to (the teenaged girl). She is wonderful to our children, our children adored her, she had a great relationship with my wife, and I think it’s been documented throughout all of this, we treated her with absolute respect the year that she babysat for us, and this would not have happened in a hundred million years had I not put myself in the position to be on medication. Nevertheless, my heart goes out to her and my apology is profound.
To her mom and dad. I know this is your daughter. I have a little girl. I know that women and daughters are precious, and my heart goes out to you. I thank them for extending me grace by accepting my apologies.
To my wife, who’s been amazing through all of this, who didn’t deserve this public humiliation, you are tremendous with our children who I love dearly, and who’s been subjected to so many false rumours and so much ridicule. There are no words.
To my mom and dad, who raised us with a moral compass, who always taught us the value of other people, who always taught us to treat other people with dignity, and I’ve tried to honour them by living my life this way, the way that I have. It pains me beyond words that 10 or 15 seconds of my life could impact them so significantly, and I’m so profoundly sorry.
To Jim Hopson, who hired me, to Rob Pletch and the board of directors, Kenny Miller, to the coaches and players, the people that I’ve worked with and share my love of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, I apologize.
And, last but not least, to the good people of this province. One of the things I’ve said many times about moving here is that the wonderful thing about raising children here is the sense of pride, the sense of family, the fact that people care about things that matter here. I know people here care about not only their good names, but the good name of this province, and I’m profoundly sorry that I brought embarrassment to not only the organization and my family, but to people throughout this province.
As Aaron said several times, this has been incredibly painful for me. That said, it should be noted I should be last on that list. I take full responsibility for my actions, and my emotion today is for other people that I know have been impacted. It’s been painful for them.
And while there are no adequate words, I apologize, your honour. It was very wrong.”

BLOGGER NOTE: There have been many unkind comments about this situation today that have not been published. Those where a name was attached or it was someone with who I am familiar did get their comments on. The judge will make his decision on this matter tomorrow morning. Until then, I will not be posting any comments regarding this story. Once the decision has come out, I will only post comments from those who attach a name to their comments. The thoughts of Mr or Mrs. Anonymous will not be accepted.

I'm a little confused by the actions of two coaches whose teams are playoff bound in the NFL. Let me explain
1)Bill Belichick is seen by many as a genius. His track record with the Patriots can't be ignored. He is one of the top coaches in the NFL. Belichick had many scratching his head with his decision to gamble on 4th and 2 deep in their end in what turned out to be a loss to the Colts. His rationale that evening was that he didn't think his defence could stop Peyton Manning so he gambled in an attempt to keep the ball out of his hands. Even though I wouldn't have done that, I know what he was trying to accomplish. I don't know what he was trying to do yesterday though.
Tom Brady is his marquee player. We hear before the game that Brady has some broken ribs. Despite this, Belichick plays him. New England had really nothing to gain in their game against Houston as they knew they would get one home playoff game before going on the road. Brady could have sat and healed. He didn't. However, once Houston came back to take the lead with two minutes left, Belichick decides to let Brady sit on the bench to let backup Brian Hoyer run the two minute offence. Why? If you are going to play Brady for that long, why not keep him in for a two minute offence that he is very experienced at. I can't explain that.
2)Indy coach Jim Caldwell got everyone talking when he benched his star players and ended up losing to the Jets thus ending their chance at a perfect season. Caldwell didn't want players like Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney to get hurt. They go to Buffalo yesterday and play in a snowstorm, yet Manning and Wayne get the start as does tight end Dallas Clark. Manning does nothing but throw short screen passes to Wayne and Clark until each reach 100 receptions on the season and then they are pulled. Why? If you didn't want your players getting hurt last week, why even dress them this week. Its obvious that in Indy getting personal goals is more important than team goals. Wayne and Clark should have been happy with where they are instead of getting to the milestone 100. Could Curtis Painter not have been the one throwing the passes instead of Manning. Again, I can't explain Caldwell's actions.
If you can stick up for either, comment away!

Tillman Pleads Guilty
From ctv.ca
Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman pleaded guilty to a single sexual assault charge in a Regina courthouse on Monday.
The charge stemmed from an alleged incident at his home involving a teenaged babysitter.
Tillman, 52, was arrested on Jan. 27, 2009 after a 16-year-old girl filed a complaint alleging he sexually assaulted her in August 2008.
Tillman, who led the Roughriders to the 2007 Grey Cup Championship, has been on paid administrative leave from the team since he was charged.
When the media learned of the charge on Feb. 3, the married father of two suggested there was more to the story and said he looked forward to the facts of the case coming to light in court.
At the time, he pleaded not guilty to the charge, which the Crown reduced to a summary matter. A summary matter is considered less serious than an indictable offence. The maximum sentence for a summary sexual assault conviction is 18 months in jail. An indictable sexual assault conviction carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years.
The judge has reserved his decision until Tuesday morning.

Another Canada-US Showdown
If Canada is to complete the "Saskatchewan Sixpack", they will have to deal with the Americans once more. Canada had no problems getting past Switzerland in one semi-final, while the USA polished off Sweden in the other. After playing so well in Regina, Swedish goalie Jakob Markstrom had a couple of softies go by him and you just can't have that in this tournament. It means Canada faces the US for the gold and if it even comes close to what we saw on New Years Eve, it will be a classic.
One thing Canada won't have is the services of Warriors blueliner Travis Hamonic. He suffered what is believed to be a separated shoulder and will miss the game. This news can't make the Warriors happy. Will this prompt them to find a defenceman at the trade deadline or will they start giving players away and if so, what do they get for Jason Bast?
If you're an Oilers fan, I ask you this. Who will have the bigger impact on the Oilers in the future. Will it be Jordan Eberle or Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson. I see both of those guys with the big team next year.
----
The NFL season is over, but it will be a strange sense of deja vu next week. In what has to be a first, three of the four games next weekend will be games we saw yesterday. Dallas will entertain Philadelphia and the Packers will be at Arizona next weekend in NFC matchups. This after the Cowboys and Cheezheads spanked the Eagles and Cardinals. Will it be that way next weekend? Arizona can't be as bad as they were yesterday and the same goes for the Eagles. In the AFC, the Jets, who pounded Cincinnati to get in, will take on the Bengals with the Ravens in New England. Cincy will be much tougher next week especially at home and I can't see New England gagging one at home the way they did yesterday in Houston. That was absolutely disgusting.
I have to wonder if Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen will tell Josh McDaniels he is done as head coach. McDaniels screwed the situation up at the start of the year by alienating Jay Cutler. It looked like he might be alright after starting the season at 6-0, but losing six of their last eight including getting stomped on at home by lowly Kansas City may be the final straw. Would it have been that way had he not benched Brandon Marshall. That's a question we might never know, but the players may have sent a message with that effort.
I have to wonder what the Seahawks brass will say about a very disappointing season--one that ended with a four point loss to the Titans. This team needs to a) find a quarterback to replace the rapidly aging Matt Hasselbeck, B)re-establish a running game, C) rebuild a terrible offensive line, D) develop a pass-rush. This will not be something that can be done overnight. This team was hammered by injuries in 2008 and I thought they could compete in 2009. I was wrong. They were brutal--especially on the road. Arizona and San Francisco are turning into the class of that division. The gap between those two and the Seahawks will be determined in the off-season.
Chad Ochocinco says he will change his name back to Chad Johnson if he is shut down by Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis. Ochocinco injured his knee in the pre-game warmup, but Revis held him silent until he left in the 2nd quarter because of the injury. Do you think Chad will come through and change his name back. Yeah, I don't either.
The Patriots take a huge hit as they lose Wes Welker to a knee injury. It happened on a play where he wasn't even hit. This will have those saying you have to rest your stars when you have a chance a platform, but Welker got hurt on an innocent looking play. It can happen at any place, any time.
Are the Vikings back or are the Giants just showing us how bad they really are? I think it may have been a combination of both.
----
The sports world hits the news world this morning as Rider GM Eric Tillman heads to court to face a charge of sexual assault involving a 16 year old girl. I have no idea how this is going to end up. No matter how it ends, it leaves the football team with some negative publicity to start the new year. Everyone has their own thoughts on the matter and they will have their own thoughts once it is over and a decision is reached.
------
CFL players can start signing NFL contracts today. Will Andy Fantuz be one of them? Has he worked out for anyone since leaving town? He wants that NFL opportunity, but I just don't know if he will get it. He certainly has the hands, but I think he is too small to be a tight end and he is too big to be a receiver and perhaps not as fast either. I can't blame #83 for wanting to take a shot at the NFL, but I really wonder who will come calling. Others who can sign south of the border include ex-Rider Adarius Bowman, BC's Ricky Foley, Toronto's Justin Medlock and Calgary's Dmitri Tsoumpas. After seeing how bad some NFL kickers have been this year, I can't see Medlock having any problem getting an NFL opportunity.
-----
If you saw last night's Family Guy, I just have three words to say. BEST EPISODE EVER!! Holy crap that was funny from start to finish. Its now less than two weeks until another season of "24" starts. YES!
------
Bret Hart returns to "RAW" tonight. I've heard its going to be a very interesting four months as "The Hitman" returns to the WWE. If you're a wrestling fan, that will be must watch TV tonight. I loved watching Bret and the others do their thing at Exhibition Auditorium back in the 80's. Tuesday nights in that dingy old place was the highlight of the week. I hope before the wrecking ball knocks the auditorium down that High Impact Wrestling can get in there for one or two shows. If Bret or anyone else from Stampede could show up to say goodbye, that would be outstanding. If it was Bret, you know the place would be sold out.
----
I don't care what anyone says. Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and CJME's Jamie Nye were separated at birth! Even though he says no, I still think Wray Morrison and ABC/ESPN's Mike Breen could be brothers as well.
-----
When I start scraping that low, I gotta go. Have a good Monday!

If you saw last night's Family Guy, I just have three words to say. BEST EPISODE EVER!! Holy crap that was funny from start to finish. Its now less than two weeks until another season of "24" starts. YES!

I don't care what anyone says. Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and CJME's Jamie Nye were separated at birth! Even though he says no, I still think Wray Morrison and ABC/ESPN's Mike Breen could be brothers as well.

When I start scraping that low, I gotta go. Have a good Monday!
