I guess I can't blame the American sports media for obsessing with the "Where's Lebron James going to play" story. The Canadian sports media would be doing the same thing if Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin was an unrestricted free agent. Perhaps its the fact I'm not a huge NBA fan, but I couldn't care less. The same goes for Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Just decide where you are going to play and move on. Some are now saying Lebron will not only snub the Cavaliers, but will snub Cleveland by not playing there. I laugh when people say the city is the place. Do you really think being a multi-millionaire in Chicago is any different than it is in Cleveland or New York or wherever? The money is all the same its just where is it going to be spent. Hopefully we'll find out soon so the obsession will stop. As I said, the Canadian media would be going hog-wild if Sid or Ovie or one of the other game's top stars was on the verge of changing addresses, but I would be much more interested in that because of my Canadian roots.

Two things I witnessed while taking in yet another 10 percent Tuesday. A Heinz bottle with a red substance in it that said "ketchup style sauce". Is this different than just plain old ketchup. The other thing was a Hungryman dinner that consisted of a burrito and rice. That should just be known as colon cleanser.
-----
Speaking of colon cleanser, I see my favourite website which is a tremendous source of comedy is at it again. The debate is on as to who is going to replace Joe Hadesbeck on the CKRM pre and post-game show and some people are taking runs at yours truly. The comments from some of these knuckledraggers are quite comical. Its too bad that I have some friends that post on that site regularly because I just group them in with the others.....no that's not fair because I actually respect the opinions of those people. To those who are commenting, I couldn't give one you know what about what you think. Go back now to obsessing over the fact you got fooled by some woman that you thought was hot because she said so or debating if the Riders look better when they wear green socks or white socks. Oh yeah, one other thing. I won't be doing Saturday's post-game show, but I will be hosting Friday's Sports Cage with Scott Schultz seeing Rod is in Vancouver. Take that for what you will.

Get out the wooden shoes. The Dutch will face either Germany or Spain in Sunday's World Cup final. The Germany-Spain game could be the match of the tournament.
-----
While I hope this Amber Alert that is out for this 4 year old girl and her mother has a happy ending. I have my doubts seeing its been over 24 hours. Lets all hope for the best!
-----
While starting with Lebron, lets close it with him too. When he makes his announcement, can Brett Favre be at the podium too so we know if he is playing this year?

Whenever I look for something, it’s always in the last place I look.

Weekly Awards For Two Riders
Saskatchewan Roughrider quarterback Darian Durant has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Offensive Player of the Week, while receiver Andy Fantuz has been named the CFL’s Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player of the Week.
Durant had an incredible opening day to the season as he helped lead the Riders to a 54-51 overtime victory over the visiting Montreal Alouettes. Durant completed 30 of 44 passes for 478 yards and five touchdowns. He also had five carries for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Fantuz finished his day with eight receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown reception with one minute left in the game helped send the game to overtime.
In addition to Durant and Fantuz, Rider receiver Rob Bagg was selected as the runner-up for the Gibson’s Finest Canadian Player of the Week. Bagg finished the game with four catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.
This marks the first week of a full season of Gibson’s Finest Player awards which will be handed out on a weekly and monthly basis through the end of November.

Was He The Toughest Ever?
Needless to say, there was a little shock when news of Bob Probert's passing hit. At the time of writing this, I hope drugs and alcohol were not involved in his collapse and ultimate death, but then again, maybe it was the drugs and alcohol he had already taken just catching up with him.
When passing the information on at work, a chat developed as to where Probert ranked when it comes to all-time tough players. Probert played in an era where fighters were not criticized the way they are now. In fact, they were glorified. I twittered today wondering how Probert would fare against Derek Boogaard and then the names started coming. Tie Domi, Joe Kocur, Ken Baumgartner, Dave Manson and the guy I thought might have been the toughest of them all--Dave Brown. The thing Probert had that the others didn't is he had a goal-scorers touch. He had 62 points in the 1987-88 season along with a whopping 398 penalty minutes.
----
Those that know me know I watch Monday Night Raw on a weekly basis whether it be live or on tape. I love this angle involving the NXT Rookies and I thought Monday's show was pretty good. Two things came out of this show as far as I'm concerned. 1) I am not buying that Stone Cold Steve Austin is the "mystery" general manager calling the shots and 2) I think John Cena is going to go from hero to heel perhaps as early as next week. If this does happen, it will be interesting to see how quick of a turn Cena takes and if the WWE universe buys it.
----
Semi final 1 at the World Cup goes today with Holland taking on Uruguay. You would have to think the Dutch would advance to Sunday's final, but you can never count out a South American team. This one should be good. It won't be as good as Germany-Spain tomorrow which is a game that could have very well been the final.
----
How does Joey Votto react to not being picked for the National League All-Star team. The Canadian homers twice for the Reds as they beat the Mets 8-6. Votto now has 21 homers and is being seen as an MVP candidate. Over in the American League, Canadian Justin Morneau is being considered an MVP candidate. What would be said if a pair of Canadians won their respective league MVP's. Imagine a Reds-Twins World Series and the publicity Canada would get.
----
The Red Sox beat Moose Jaw 6-2 on Monday night. I put that in for those that may not listen to CKRM, watch Global and CTV or read the Leader Post.
-----
I think the first CFL stars of the week will come out Tuesday. Darian Durant is a shoo-in for offensive player of the week is he not?
----
To those who have asked the question (and in some cases been very rude to two people which is why your comments aren't and won't be posted), you'll have to tune in to find out.

Bob Probert Passes Away
From TSN.ca
According to a report on Windsor radio station AM 800 CKLW, former NHL tough guy Bob Probert has died after being rushed to hospital with vital signs absent after collapsing in a boat on Lake St. Clair on Monday.
CKLW is reporting that emergency crews performed CPR on the former Red Wings and Blackhawks' forward and then transported him to Windsor Regional Hospital where efforts to revive him were reportedly unsuccessful.
One of the most feared fighters in the history of the NHL, the Windsor native scored 163 goals and added 221 assists and whoppinig 3,300 penalty minutes in 935 career NHL games.
While Probert's bouts with the likes of Tie Domi and Marty McSorley were legendary, he was also an incredibly skilled player who played in the 1988 NHL All-Star game. A star on the ice, Probert battled his demons off the ice, including well documented problems with the law as well as alcohol and substance abuse.
Probert was 45 years old.

Anyone Want A Re-Do?
I know it was only Game 1 of the season. I know its a marathon and not a sprint. However, I raised my eyebrows when the so-called experts started taking Edmonton to win the West, and now I'm left to wonder if those who did so might want to change their tune a little. If the Week 1 opener between the Riders and Alouettes was the game of the year, the Lions-Eskimos tilt was just plain ugly with BC winning it. The Lions didn't look great, but the Eskimos were HORRIBLE!
Ricky Ray's performance did nothing to show me that my prediction of him being close to the top of the hill was wrong.
With the Alouettes playing Edmonton next week and the Riders playing BC, both of Sunday's combatants are going to have to be much, much better next week or face the prospect of getting smoked.

You know its bad when controversy rears its ugly head at the annual July 4th hot-dog eating contest. Joey Chestnut won by inhaling 54 dogs in 10 minutes which was down from his 2009 winning total of 68. The controversy started when Chestnut's main competitor--Takeru Kobayashi crashed the stage. The 32-year-old Kobayashi did not eat this year because he refused to sign a contract with Major League Eating -- the fast food equivalent of the NFL. On his Japanese-language blog, he said he wanted to be free to compete in contests sanctioned by other groups.
What? There is now some eating union? Its like WWE vs TNA? Its like UFC vs Strikeforce? There is more to the hot dog eating championship than two guys going out and doing something extremely nauseating in front of many live and god knows how many watching on TV! Why do I smell a Will Ferrell movie in the making?
-----
Did you see the huge crash at the Tour de France? It was caused by a dog! Many riders go down because of man's best friend. Its great video!
-----
Have the Pats officially given the play-by-play job to Dan Plaster yet?
----
What has happened to Danny Barrett? I was told at the Rider game he had re-surfaced at Bethune Cookman University, but there is no sign of him on their website. Is he out of football completely right now?
----
Thank goodness for the mosquito-eating dragonfly. They are certainly big and fat this year, but that's OK.
-----
I'm guessing not many Jays fans thought Jose Bautista and John Buck would be going to the all-star game.
----
I watched the Cubs game against Cincinnati today. The Reds clubbed out 7 homers in a 14-3 win. Pathetic! Purely pathetic! Like the Oilers, its time for a complete rebuild at Wrigley. Its time for ex-Cub Ryne Sandberg (greatest 2nd baseman ever) to take the managerial reins. He's been working his way up the organization. Its time to take over.
-----
The Swift Current Indians reminded the Regina Red Sox just who the best team in the WMBL is this season. The Indians came into Regina and silenced the Resox 10-zip. A chance to get back in the win column comes tomorrow when Moose Jaw visits.
----
Kyle Drabek, the pitcher Toronto wanted from Philly in the Halladay deal, tossed a no hitter in double A ball on Sunday. How much longer until he gets promoted to the bigs?
----
How much longer is Fleet Street going to be closed?
-----
Why would any team want to pay huge money for Ilya Kovalchuk?
----
Do you ever dream about having insomnia?
