RIDERS NAME OFFENSIVE COACHING STAFF
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are pleased to announce their offensive coaching staff for the 2012 CFL season.
BOB DYCE – OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/RUNNING BACKS
Dyce has spent the last two seasons as the receivers coach and passing game coordinator with the Green and White. Before joining the Riders, the Winnipeg native spent seven seasons with the Blue Bombers where he served as the team’s receivers coach and was in charge of the team’s Canadian player personnel. Prior to making the transition into coaching in the CFL, Dyce spent seven seasons as the receivers coach with his alma mater the Manitoba Bisons. Dyce began his coaching career in 1992 when he joined the staff of the St. Vital Mustangs of the CJFL. He spent two seasons with the Mustangs before making the move to offensive coordinator and receivers coach for the Winnipeg Hawkeyes of the CJFL. He spent the 1994 and 1995 seasons with the Hawkeyes.
KRIS SWEET – RUN GAME COORDINATOR/OFFENSIVE LINE
Sweet spent the last five years as the offensive line coach with the Calgary Stampeders. Prior to joining the Stamps, Sweet coached the offensive line at Columbia University after spending a year in the same position at Kentucky State. He entered coaching in 1997 as a graduate assistant coach at Tennessee Tech followed by single seasons at Holy Cross and Elon. After that Sweet spent five years at Presbyterian College where he began coaching the running backs and tight ends before being named offensive coordinator in 2003. The Salem, Virginia native got his first taste of the CFL when he served as a guest coach with the B.C. Lions in 2005.
KHARI JONES – QUARTERBACKS COACH
Jones has spent the last three seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where he spent the first two seasons coaching the quarterbacks and most recently served as the Ti-Cats offensive coordinator. Prior to moving into coaching, Jones spent eight years as a decorated quarterback in the CFL receiving all-star nods and winning the Most Outstanding Player Award in 2001. His playing career began in 1998 with the B.C. Lions where he spent two seasons before being traded to Winnipeg. In 2004, he went on to play with the Stampeders for the remainder of the season before joining Hamilton in 2005. After attending training camp with Edmonton in 2006, Jones went on to spend the season in broadcasting with CBC. Before returning to the CFL as a coach, Jones became the Director of Football at National Sports Development based in Calgary.
JASON TUCKER – RECEIVERS COACH
Tucker spent two seasons coaching the receiving corps in Edmonton after suffering a fractured neck in 2008 which cut his distinguished player career short. The four-time CFL and West All-Star won a Grey Cup in 2003 and finished his career with 7,046 receiving yards in his seven years as a receiver with the Eskimos.

Eberle's Acting Debut
Alberta Treasury Branch issued out a new commercial during the Oilers-Hawks game on Sportsnet last night. It features Jordan Eberle. Take a look...
Can't help but wonder if Ebs may get a call from Brendan Shanahan. That hit looked to be dangerous.

Another QB Swap
The Henry Burris to Hamilton trade has now been made official by both teams. Here is the release from the Stampeders on the deal.
NHL Three Stars Of The Week
NEW YORK (January 2, 2012) -- Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos, Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin and Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick have been named the NHL 'Three Stars' for the week ending Jan. 1.
FIRST STAR -- STEVEN STAMKOS, C, TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Stamkos surged to the NHL goal-scoring lead by notching six goals as the Lightning (17-17-3) posted three consecutive victories and moved within six points of the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Stamkos scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Dec. 27 and tallied once in a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Dec. 29. He ended the week by recording the fifth hat trick of his NHL career and second game-winner in three outings to key a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes Dec. 31. The first overall selection in the 2008 NHL Draft enters the New Year with a League-leading 26 goals, four more than second-place Marian Gaborik of the New York Rangers. Stamkos is the only NHL player to have scored at least 40 goals in each of the past three calendar years.
SECOND STAR -- ALEX OVECHKIN, LW, WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Ovechkin recorded seven points (five goals, two assists) and a +4 rating as the Capitals (20-15-2) won three of four starts. He tallied points in each game, extending his point streak to six games (6-3--9). The Capitals captain opened the post-holiday schedule with one goal in a 4-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Dec. 26 and finished the week with three consecutive multiple-point performances. He earned a pair of assists in a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers Dec. 28, notched his first two-goal game since Oct. 29 in a 3-1 victory over Buffalo Dec. 30 and keyed a four-goal Washington rally by scoring twice in the third period of a 4-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets Dec. 31. The two-time NHL MVP increased his season points total to 31 (16 goals, 15 assists) in 37 games. He leads the Capitals in goals, power-play goals (five) and shots (143).
THIRD STAR -- JONATHAN QUICK, G, LOS ANGELES KINGS
Quick helped the Kings (19-14-6) jump to first place in the Pacific Division by posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 goals-against average and .958 save percentage, including victories over the first- and second-ranked teams in the Western Conference. After making 26 saves in a 4-3 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes Dec. 26, Quick stopped all 38 shots he faced for his League-leading fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Western Conference-leading Chicago Blackhawks Dec. 28. He concluded the week by turning aside 27 of 28 shots in a 4-1 win over the Northwest Division-leading Vancouver Canucks Dec. 31. Quick improved his season record to 17-10-5 with a 2.05 goals-against average and .931 save percentage in 32 appearances.

The Last Weekend
The NFL regular season has come to an end. The field has been whittled down to 12 and the race for the Vince starts next week. As always, questions and thoughts on the final week of the season. Without further adieu and in no particular order...
--Who the hell is Victor Cruz and where did he come from? Did anyone draft this guy in September when fantasy football drafts were held. If you did, good on you.
--The New England Patriots simply can't get behind playoff opponents by 17 and 21 like they did the last two weeks and expect to come back. The teams they play now are not the calibre of the Dolphins and Bills.
--Has Tebowmania come to an end. If it hasn't, it might next weekend against that Pittsburgh defence.
--I think Aaron Rodgers is the MVP, but Drew Brees makes a compelling argument.
--The Lions and the Packers obviously watched the Alamo Bowl the other night. Its because of what Matt Stafford did to the Green Bay defence that I take New Orleans to win the NFC.
--Larry Fitzgerald is the best receiver in the NFL. Is there anything he doesn't catch?
--What was Houston doing at the end of their game against Tennessee. What a train wreck that was.
--Did you need a good old greasy double cheezburger before settling in to watch the NFL games after a night of celebrating the New Year?
--Who would you rather have --Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham?
--Who would you rather have--Cam Newton or Andy Dalton?
--Has the Mark Sanchez era ended in New York?
--Packers quarterback Matt Flynn is an unrestricted free agent. His performance against Detroit likely made him a lot of money.
--How many coaches get canned in the next few days. I will say Tampa's Raheem Morris, the Chargers Norv Turner, the Rams Steve Spagnuolo and Chan Gailey of the Bills are all in their last days.
Elsewhere.....
The performance of the Pats this weekend may have secured the fact that Jordan Weal isn't going anywhere. Wins at home over Swift Current and Edmonton along with a point in Brandon on Friday means the team is now 2nd in the Eastern Division and 5th in the Conference. There is still a long ways to go, but if they can beat Prince Albert at home Wednesday and split with the Blades this weekend, they would be foolish to part ways with their star center.
If Canada is to play Russia at the World Juniors, it will be a semi-final game. That seems so anti-climactic.
Lebron James got engaged this weekend. At least someone in his family has a ring.
The Weather Network says plus 7 for Regina on Thursday. Plus 7??!!!
Is Ilya Bryzgalov mistaking that morning coffee for vodka? He's gone off the deep end.
What are ya watchin today? World Junior quarter-finals, the Winter Classic or US College Football Bowl games. Whatever it is, enjoy it!!
