The Toronto Argonauts will acquire Ricky Ray from the Edmonton Eskimos in exchange for Steven Jyles, Grant Shaw and a draft pick, according to Sportsnet's Arash Madani.
The Eskimos have scheduled an afternoon news conference at Commonwealth Stadium to announce the deal.
The 32-year-old Ray had spent his entire nine-year CFL career with Edmonton, leading the Eskimos to two Grey Cup championships over that span.
Ray, 32, threw for 4,594 yards and 24 touchdown passes during the 2011 season.
Jyles began his CFL career with Edmonton in 2006 before being traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders prior to the 2008 season.
He was traded to Toronto from Winnipeg in March 2011 but spent the first half of the season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
Jyles was the Argos' starter the second half of the season after incumbent Cleo Lemon was released as Toronto finished last in the East Division standings with a 6-12 record.
The Argonauts have been searching for stability at the quarterback position since Damon Allen retired.

Say It Ain't So Chris
The CFL coaching carousel has been spinning and now it appears the quarterback carousel is doing the same thing.
TSN's Dave Naylor is reporting today the Eskimos are listening to offers for Ricky Ray. Naylor suggests the Eskimos want Steven Jyles in return. However, the more interesting nugget for this blogger comes from Chris Cuthbert in his blog.
Cuthbert throws this out when talking about Dave Dickenson.....
A fascinating sidebar to Dickenson assuming the reins in Saskatchewan is the possibility of Henry Burris accompanying the Stampeders Offensive Coordinator. Hamilton would still appear the best fit for Burris, but a package deal of Dickenson and Burris to Saskatchewan would certainly fuel an off season frenzy in Rider Nation.
Burris back in green? That will surely have some up in arms. Dare I say it, Mr. Dickenson would have a QB controversy on his hands right from day 1.

How Bout Dem Cowboys!!!!
Like them or not(and I'm in the latter category), the Dallas Cowboys certainly make for great talk fodder for those who dissect and analyze the NFL each and every week. The Cowboys have made life a lot more difficult for themselves this year with some stupid decisions, but last nite neither Tony Romo or Jason Garrett was to blame. It was the defence.
I kept waiting for Romo to screw up and to his credit he didn't, but the defence gassed a 12 point lead in the final 3 minutes and change as they lost to the Giants 37-34. The best part of these Cowboy meltdowns for me is when the cameras show a disgusted Jerry Jones or as they call him in Dallas Jerr-ah. I can't stand the guy and he is one of my all time favourite sports villains so when they lose, I smile. Now for the dissection to begin.
Other thoughts from another eventful NFL Sunday
--I just don't know what more you can say about Tim Tebow. Chicago was up 10-0 late in the 4th, but I knew somehow, someway Tebow would win that game. Yes, Marian Barber helped immensely with a couple of major mistakes, but Tebow and the Broncos found a way. Next up is New England. They can't can they? Can they? I don't know if I want to bet against them.
--Speaking of New England, Tom Brady got in the face of his offensive co-ordinator or was it the other way around after a bad interception yesterday. Yes, the blow-up made all the highlight reels. Brady put the issue to bed right after the game saying the competitive fires got out of control. We all know no one would believe Darian Durant if he said that about Doug Berry if such a sidelines confrontation ever would have emerged.
--Frank Caliendo's bit with Joe Buck in which the FOX play-by-play just ridicules him for being so insecure that he has to play all these guys like Madden, President Bush and Jack Nicholson was pure gold.
--The 49ers finally looked like the 49ers that I and many others think they are.
--T.J Yates is 2-0 as an NFL starter. Who knew? Those QB's out of North Carolina can play the game apparently.
--The Jets and Chargers have looked good the past couple of weeks, but I don't think you can put them in serious Super Bowl talk.
--Nice of the Falcons to finally wake up and play the football they are capable of. I still think its too late for them too.
--Who in their right mind at ESPN approves a Rams-Seahawks Monday niter this late in the season. Who? Oh well, its at least a chance to see Jon Ryan do his thing and see if Mike Tirico has the nerve to say Saskatchewan for two weeks in a row. He pulled it off last week when talking about John Chick.
--I lost a fantasy playoff game because Carson Palmer threw an interception with 30 seconds left in the game giving the Packers defence an extra two points. That hurts! It left me with one of those Jerr-ah Jones looks once it was over.
--I guess I've come full circle if I've started and ended it with Jerr-ah. See you in the Sportscage at 5. You will hear from Weston Dressler who is helping guys who stayed here over the winter get a job, Mitch (Danger Zone) Clarke who competed at UFC 140 this weekend and Rod Pedersen from the World Junior camp in Calgary.

UFC 140 And Other Stuff
UFC has its highlight moments--they can be gruesome, but they are a highlight moment. That was the case in Toronto Saturday night as a sold out crowd saw Jon "Bones" Jones defeat Lyoto Machida to keep his light heavyweight title. What everyone who saw the pay per view willl talk about though is the end of the Frank Mir-Antonio Noguiera match. Mir basically snapped Noguiera's arm in two to win the match and I'm sure in many homes and bars across North America and the World there were just gasps and wide eyes along with comments like "Oh my God" after seeing Mir do what he did. If you didn't see it and you like that kind of stuff, I'm sure it will be on YouTube if it isn't already. Its not for the squeamish.

Saskatoon's Mitch "Danger Zone" Clarke made history when he stepped into the octagon as he became the first Saskatchewan born fighter to do so. Clarke lost in the 2nd round to John Cholich. Clarke is scheduled to join me in the "Sportscage" Monday night at 6.

Is it just me or is Kent Austin losing support day-by-day? More and more people seem to see that Austin is perhaps asking for too much or they have gotten tired of him waiting to make an announcement of some sort. This only makes me think it is time for Brendan Taman to offer the job to Dave Dickenson IF Dave came away impressing the brass during his interview last week. Dickenson is who the fans want and it won't be a tough sell job even if Austin does somehow return to the CFL. I also think fans are aware that unless disaster hits for a 2nd straight season that Dickenson isn't thinking of bolting like Austin did with two years left on his contract. As one person told me Friday night, what's to stop Austin from winning in 2012 and leaving in the off-season making Taman search for another coach in a year that is a Grey Cup year. Good point!

High Impact Wrestling will never have the same appeal or love to me that Stampede Wrestling had back in the 80's, but damn I am entertained at those Friday events at the Victoria Club. If you can't talk smack to the wrestlers and vice-versa, then why bother, but when you can its a lot of fun. If only I could calm Vanstone down. It was just out of control chaos and degeneracy on Friday. LOVE IT!

Oops!! Baseball has egg on its face after the National League MVP Ryan Braun fails a drug test and is handed a 50 game suspension. Somewhere, NBA commissioner David Stern smiles.

Speaking of Stern, when is the last time a commissioner vetoed a trade in any league. How ridiculous. I hate the Lakers. but they are getting screwed in this bigtime although it appears as if the trade will finally go through albeit with different parameters. I just laugh at those that say the Lakers have a star-studded lineup now. Ummmmmm--Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom are moving on so you are left with Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and who? Is Adam Morrison still a Laker? Does this mean Luke Walton finally becomes a starter? Talk of the Lakers being a mega-team like Miami is a joke.

I wonder if Reginans that attend events at the Brandt Centre will ever realize that the merge theory is a very easy way for traffic to get out of there. It never fails me to be at the Brandt Centre and see one douchebag after another just follow the car they are behind bumper to bumper so that no one can get in or try to. The merge makes things go a lot quicker and pleases a lot more people. I shouldn't blame just Reginans. It happens in Saskatoon too and other places.

I don't like Ben Roethlisberger, but he is the toughest quarterback in the NFL bar none. I, like many others, thought he had broken his ankle Thursday against Cleveland, but he hobbled back in there and got the team touchdowns when they needed it. Make no doubt about it, the Steelers aren't the same team with Charlie Batch calling the signals, but it will take a lot to have Roethlisberger sit.

I didn't think Andy Sutton's hit on Alexei Ponikarovsky the other night was enough to warrant an 8 game suspension from the NHL. I had forgotten about Sutton's hit on Gabriel Landeskog earlier this year though and I didn't know he was a multiple repeat offender. If that's the case, one could argue it should have been more. Sutton obviously isn't listening to how the game must be played now.

Clarke Gets Beat At UFC 140
Saskatchewan's first ever fighter to enter a UFC octagon was beaten Saturday night. Mitch "Danger Zone" Clarke was beaten in the 2nd round on a TKO by John Cholish in Toronto on the undercard of UFC 140. The fight was on UFC's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/#!/UFC). I do not know if it will be archived on the site.
Clarke is scheduled to join me on "The Sportscage" Monday night at 6 to talk about his experience.

Taman Provides Some Info
Riders GM Brendan Taman and assistant GM Jeremy O'Day took time out of their busy schedules to visit Rod Pedersen and Scott Schultz on "The Sportscage" Friday afternoon.
It was revealed that six people have been spoken to when it comes to who will be the new head coach. They are Dave Dickenson, Craig Dickenson, Richie Hall, Corey Chamblin, Mike O'Shea and Tim Burke. Taman also indicated that Kent Austin isn't out of the mix although there have been no interviews.
The carousel continues to spin.

Spengler Cup Team Has Saskatchewan Flavour To It
Hockey Canada announced its team for the Spengler Cup tournament which happens in Switzerland every year. The team as you will see has a distinct Saskatchewan feel to it. The roster can be seen right here
