Pats To Honor Rypien Tonight

Tonight will be a special night for the Regina Pats organization. Earlier in the summer, former Captain, Rick Rypien passed away. It was one of many tragic moments for the hockey world but one that affected the Regina Pats very deeply. Rick’s mother Shelly will be in attendance and will drop the puck before the game between the Pats and the Cougars.

Tonight, the hockey club is also proud to rename their “Unsung Hero Award” award the “Rick Rypien Award” because he best exemplified hard work not just on the ice, but also what he meant to his teammates and all the work that Rick did in the community.

“In memory of a person who was the epitome of what we want our players to be, it is MY Honour and Privilege to announce that we will be renaming the Regina Pats Unsung Hero award in the Name of former Regina Pat Rick Rypien.” Regina Pats President, Brent Parker continues, “It is an honour that he earned through his commitment, dedication and selflessness. We all miss him dearly but through this award he will continue to have an impact on our organization.”

The ceremony will take place before tonight’s game between the number four team in the country, your Regina Pats and the Prince George Cougars.
