Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach, general manager and vice-president of football operations Chris Jones says he is happy with what his football team has been able to accomplish at the beginning of CFL free agency.

Speaking in a conference call from his home in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Jones told reporters on Wednesday morning that the first 24 hours have been what the club was expecting because they had most of their work done.

“We had to be careful with how we spent our money and where we were spending it to make sure we were addressing our biggest needs.” Jones said. “We feel pretty good about what we have done.”

When it comes to free-agent running back Jerome Messam, Jones said conversations were on-going, but no deal had been struck.

Moments after Jones was finished with the conference call, Messam sent out a tweet saying he is coming back to Riderville.

When asked about what still needs to be done, Jones says there is one glaring area that needs to be filled.

“We don’t have a left tackle right now so we will have to look at what is going on at that position and give some concentration to that position.”  Jones said.  “We are working with Bruce Campbell about getting a deal done, and we hope to secure him, but its premature to say he will be back. It’s a situation where we know what we can pay, but some guys think they need more so there needs to be some give and take, but we will see.”
