Turning Victory Into Defeat

Regina Pats coach Curtis Hunt should be seething. Seething because his team should have at least gotten a point if not two against Moose Jaw last night and seething because maybe his team deserved exactly what it did get at the Brandt Centre.

The Pats ended their five game homestand with a 4-3 loss to Moose Jaw. Regina dominated the game in the first period and appeared to be in control going into the 3rd, but goals by Dylan Hood, Brendan Rowinski and Antonin Honesjek turned a 2-1 lead into a 4-2 deficit. Jordan Eberle scored what would be a highlight goal for many, but just an ordinary goal for him to cut the deficit to one and then Regina scored what I thought was the tying goal but it was waived off. The video goal judge said the puck didn't go in the net, but doing the game on Access, you could see that Brett Leffler had indeed put the puck in the net.

You can look at it either one of two ways. 1)The Pats got hosed out of at least a point or 2) They didn't deserve a point after falling apart late in the 3rd. Its a devastating loss when you consider 15 of the next 18 are on the road with games in Moose Jaw and Brandon tomorrow and Sunday. This team must bounce back from the 3rd period collapse and get two points at the Civic Centre---something that is never easy.

All in all it was an entertaining game with over 80 shots on goal, but it was a disappointing one for the 5-thousand plus that showed up to watch it along with those that tuned in on Access. (I'd like to know how many do do that by the way!)

A horrible story involving former Riders Don Narcisse and Ventson Donelson has been uncovered by the Leader-Post. This is a rather disturbing story---especially for Narco who appears to have lost a lot of money.

Congrats to Pat Simmons. His rink has advanced to the Roar of the Rings Olympic Curling Trials in Edmonton next month. While Simmons gets in, defending Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue is out having been eliminated.

I went to the Press Box after Friday's game and there were many NHL oldtimers in attendance having participated in the NHL Oldtimers vs Regina police charity game. The only guy I recognized was Bryan Trottier. Its hard for this Oiler fan not to recognize Trottier. Damn, he was good in his time.

That's all I got. Have a great weekend!
