Crawling Back

The Regina Pats are showing signs of life. After looking so bad one week ago in a home loss to Moose Jaw, the team has rebounded with wins over Medicine Hat, Brandon, and now Edmonton. The Pats allowed the Oil Kings to get the first goal of the game, and the last goal, but they had the middle 5 as they bounced their Alberta foes at the Brandt Centre Friday night to keep the pressure on the teams they are chasing.
Give Tomas Hricina a lot of credit. He had a highlight reel goal to tie the game at one and get the Pats going. They dominated the Oil Kings in the first 20 plus minutes only to have each attack repelled by Edmonton's 20 year old netminder Torrie Jung. Once that first one went in, the floodgates opened as Regina kept coming at them in wave after wave after wave. Swift Current is here tonight in a 7 o'clock spot and a win in regulation would leave Regina just three back of the 9th place Broncos. If you can't make that game in person, Kelly Remple and I will have the call on Access 7 beginning at 7.

NHL.com asked its readers to pick its players of the decade. This is how it shook out. The goalie was Marty Brodeur, the defencemen were Nick Lidstrom and Scott Niedermayer. The center was Joe Sakic with the wingers being Jaromir Jagr and Alex Ovechkin. I can't really argue with any of those choices except maybe for Jagr. The 2nd team consisted of Dominik Hasek in net with Scott Stevens and Sergei Gonchar on the blueline. The forwards were Sidney Crosby, Jarome Iginla and Marian Gaborik. Marian Gaborik? I would have put Iggy ahead of Jagr and I can think of a few guys I would put ahead of Gaborik. Kovalchuk and Markus Naslund to name two. I also might have considered Joe Thornton at center ahead of Sid.

Graham DeLaet may get some TV time if he keeps going. The Weyburn golfer is still in sight of the leaders in his first ever PGA event. DeLaet sits at four under--just five back of Ryan Palmer after 36 holes. His score of 136 is better than that of players like Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. He'll play with Rory Sabbatini in the 3rd round. The Golf Network has coverage of the Sony Open from Hawaii. It starts at 6 Saskatchewan time. I don't know if that's live or taped coverage. I would think its taped, but I'm not sure.
------
Riders head coach Ken Miller is back in Regina after getting out of town for the Christmas holidays. Miller telling the Leader-Post's Murray McCormick. "I promise you that I will never get over that Grey Cup game. On the other hand, I won't let it drag me down. It's important for us to turn to the page and get focused on what is coming at us as opposed to looking in the rear-view mirror.'' I'm guessing Ken has lost a lot of sleep over what happened that November afternoon on the MacMahon Stadium turf.

As you start your weekend, I leave you with this....

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Swift is in 9th Mitch. The Pats are currently 7 points back of Red Deer for 8th (the Rebels have 2 games in hand).
As was posted on Rod's blog, going into tonight, the Pats would have to win 17 or 18 of their final 26 - and that's if all of the teams they are chasing play just .500 hockey the rest of the way. Huge mountain to climb still...but at least they are getting going in the right direction a bit. They need to finish on fire and hope they get some help. Will be alot of scoreboard watching from here on in.
I still don't like their chances.

Blair and Remple...head to head with Peyton Manning and Ray Lewis. Good thing the Vikings game is Sunday or you'd be scrambling for a different color guy.

This isn't Delaet's first PGA tour event.

You're becoming quite the Thespian. Are you having a mid life crisis, LOL?

I think this is technically DeLaet's first PGA event since he got his Tour card. The other appearances he made were exemptions.

Methinks your right KC. They'd have needed a play by play guy if the Seahawks were playing. Guess they don't have to worry about that conflict until 2012 or 13. SIGHHHH!!!

Thanks for the heads-up so I can watch NFL or NHL or just go to the game so I don't have to hear you!

Alfredsson and Heatley are two wingers I would take ahead of Jagr and Gaborik.
