Packers and Cards Save Boring Football Weekend

Talk about saving the best for last. After two games that were less than stellar on Saturday, I thought the two games on Sunday would be better. I was sure wrong on the first one as the Ravens took control right from the first play and went on to demolish a New England team that looked more like the Argos of 2008 and 2009 on their own turf. Baltimore crushed the Patriots 33-14 and in doing so I think ended the mystique that New England has had for the past many years. How did Tom Brady describe the efforts of his team. He said "I'd have booed us too if I had the chance!"
That brought us to the Packers and Cardinals and it looked like Arizona was going to run away with this one as they led 17-0, but Green Bay fought back in what was a tremendous football game and tied it at 45 late. The Cardinals miss an easy field goal in the dying seconds sending the game into overtime. Green Bay wins the toss, and you had to think the game seeing neither defence could stop the other team. However, Aaron Rodgers fumbles and Karlos Dansby returns it for the game winning touchdown as the Cardinals win 51-45. Yes, it is the highest scoring game in NFL playoff history. It spoiled a great game for Rodgers who threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. He didn't throw for 400, but Kurt Warner threw for 5 TD's in a game that could have been his last. He is talking retirement.
By the way, is it just me or should the tuck rule not have come into play on the Dansby touchdown? Take a look at it and tell me that doesn't look like the controversial play where Tom Brady was smoked by Charles Woodson giving the Raiders what they thought would be a win on that snowy Saturday night many years ago.

It means next weekend it will be the Colts and Ravens in one AFC semi with the Chargers and Jets in the other. The NFC games will have New Orleans home to Arizona and Minnesota welcoming Dallas in what should be a ring-a-ding-dong dandy. I don't think we'll see a better game in these playoffs then the Cardinals-Packers, but I'm sure the Cowboys and Vikings will try. As much as I don't like Dallas, I think their d-line might be too much for Favre and the Vikes.

A belated congratulations to the mysterious Mr. X. He won the weekly NFL pool I had going with a record of 175-81. Thanks to Lee Jones, Derek Meyers, Keith Colhoun, Rob Vanstone and X for helping out this year. X has told me that those in the Qu'Appelle Valley where he lives in a cave should be ready at any time for a celebration that is second to none.

Congrats to Amber Holland. The Regina rink earns the right to go to the Scotties as she beats Sherry Anderson 9-6 in the provincial final. The nationals go in Sault Ste. Marie at the end of the month. Amber will be at her first Scotties in 11 years and you can bet she will be right in the thick of it. Congrats also go out to the fine people in Eston for putting on a good show and rescuing the provincials after that devastating fire in Kindersley last week.

Anyone catch Teri Hatcher doing her stripper thing on "Desperate Housewives" last nite? Teri is in her mid 40's and she still has it going on!
-----
The Olympic torch relay has come and gone through Regina. I can't imagine the emotions that must have been going through Shannon England--husband of the late Sandra Schmirler--as he carried the torch in south Regina for a short time. Jan Betker also ran a short route with the torch from the legislature and I'm guessing it was quite emotional for her as well. You know damn well that if Sandra was still here that she would have been carrying that torch. Who's kidding who, they might have been getting ready to compete in Vancouver. While England and Betker have a tie to the torch, I'm thinking it must have been quite the thing for those who got the chance to carry the torch and be a part of history.

The new Jay Leno show didn't work? I can't imagine why! Who was the person making that programming decision anyhow?
----
Is Pete Carroll the coach of the Seahawks yet? Seahawks punter Jon Ryan is back in Regina. I'll have to have a little chat with him to see what the h-e double hockey sticks went wrong this year! He wasn't to blame that's for sure. In fact, I was told he was named the team's MVP, but I can't find that anywhere.

Back on TV tonight. Chuck! I don't know why, but I like that show. It doesn't compare to "24", (the countdown now less than one week away)but I like it.
-----
As you start your Monday, I'll leave you with this one.....

If a kid refuses to sleep during nap time, are they guilty of resisting a rest?

Don't think the tuck rule would apply because the ball never hits the ground. Therefore, if the tuck rule comes into play, it would be determined an interception. Not 100% sure on this, but I think that is the right call. What should have been called was the facemask just as Rodgers lost the ball. Not sure how that would have been ruled based on possession, but I would assume that the Packers would have maintained it.

Seeing the Patriots get embarassed at home was the highlight of the sports weekend for me!

Terry Hatcher--they're real and they're spectacular. HA HA! One of the best all time lines in a TV show. I did catch that last night. She is still smokin hot!

The Packers and Cardinals was a great game for those who live and breathe the CFL that say the NFL is boring. I would rather have watched that game than many CFL games this year---including the Riders.

Chuck? Desperate Housewives?

Mitch, the ball didn't touch the ground so it didn't matter.
