The gold medal drought is over!
Canada won the World Junior Hockey Championship Monday night in Toronto defeating Russia 5-4 in what was another classic contest between the two sides.
The Canadians looked like they were going to make it an easy night emotion-wise on the sold-out crowd at Air Canada Centre as they received goals from Anthony Duclair and Nick Paul in the first two and a half minutes.
The Russians cut it to 2-1 midway through the first, but Connor McDavid, Mas Domi and Sam Reinhart scored to make it 5-1 with 5 minutes to play in the 2nd when Russia made a game of it as they scored three times before the 2nd period came to an end to make it a one goal hockey game,
Zach Fucale shut the door in the 3rd period as Canada won their first gold at the World Juniors since 2009 and their first medal since the 2012 event.
The 2016 World Juniors will be played in Finland.

Hopefully, Hockey Canada brass learned a lesson there. You take talent not some 200 foot backchecker that couldn't put the puck in the ocean, as they've done in the past.
