Vince, Vince, Vince. Was That Necessary?

I'm guessing "The Score" had its highest ever rating for a Monday Night Raw program in Canada. For the first time since he was screwed over by Vince McMahon at the Survivor Series in 1997, Bret was back in a WWE ring. Like MMA star Georges St. Pierre is now, Hart was an icon in this country a decade ago--especially in Western Canada where many like myself watched him do his thing with Stampede Wrestling.

He got back in the ring at the start of the program and made peace with Shawn Michaels, but it was at the end of the show where Bret and Vince finally went face-to-face. It looked as if the two were going to make up and bury the hatchet, but those who have watched wrestling long enough(like me) knew something was going to happen. It did! Vince went from being Mr. Nice Guy to being the Vince we know and hate by kicking Bret right in the berries. That's how the show ended. We know Bret will be back next week in Minneapolis because he has signed a short contract with WWE that goes through Wrestlemania, but what will happen? That's why wrestling is a "rope" opera ladies and gentlemen.
By the way, the guest host next week is Mike Tyson. Maybe he will act the way he did in "The Hangover". One other note, the WWE had wanted "The Rock" to guest-host, but he said no so they went to Tyson.

Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan made his return (YAWWWWNNN!!!). TNA brought back old fossils like Ric Flair, the Nasty Boys, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman and even Eric Bischoff. This is a group that wants to compete with WWE? Could they not find Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake? I don't really watch TNA, but why would I now. The addition of Hogan does absolutely nothing for that company as far as I'm concerned.

If you are a hockey fan, there is no doubt you will be in front of a TV tonight as Canada meets the U-S in the final of the World Juniors. These two teams can't possibly give us a better game than what they gave us on New Years Eve can they? Can they? Despite what happened on New Years Eve, I believe Canada wins this one going away. They are at home, they know they didn't play well on New Years Eve and I don't think the Americans can play a better game than what they did that night. I really feel bad for Warriors defenceman Travis Hamonic. He separated his shoulder in the win over Switzerland and will miss the game. To go through everything he has and then miss what will and what could be the biggest game of his career is a tough pill to swallow. Oh well, at least he got to wear the green jersey twice! From everything I have heard and read, Hamonic is a great kid. I'm guessing he must be crushed over the fact he can't play. That feeling might be replaced somewhat if a gold medal is placed around his neck tomorrow night. I think it will be.

I don't care who wins the Texas-Alabama game on Thursday. The winner is not the national college football champ. Boise State gets a share of that championship after upsetting Texas Christian 17-10 in a battle of undefeated teams. Many believed TCU would win this one going away because they had tougher opponents and played in a tougher conference. WRONG! Boise State showed they could play with the big boys a few years ago when they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in what might be one of the best football games I have ever seen. They showed it again last night. Its a crime they don't get the chance to play Texas or Alabama. What a great game that would be and you know, Boise State just might prove to be giant-killers again. We really do need a true championship game in US college football.

I've been in an NFL survivor pool all year and I have made it through to the playoffs. Only 7 people remain and there is 17-hundred on the board for the winner. Who do I take this weekend? I'm leaning towards New England over Baltimore just for the fact that the Patriots are at home and the Ravens have to fly back from a tough West coast game in Oakland and then have to hit the road again. If its not New England, then its the Jets, but that big win last night over Cincinnati means nothing and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bengals rebound this weekend. The same goes for Philly and Arizona.
------
I gotta start paying more attention to the NHL. I looked at the standings tonight and see that Detroit would be out of the playoffs if they started today. Has age finally caught up to the Wings? Maybe one of those reasons why I'm not paying attention is the poor play of the Oilers. Even the Leafs have more points than Edmonton. SIGH!!!!!!

EA Sports says they are standing behind Tiger Woods. What will Tiger Woods 11 contain? You can make your own joke! Did you know that EA Sports has made 670 million off the golf game containing Tiger's name. How much does Madden make for EA? Would EA ditch Madden if he got involved in a sex scandal? Madden and sex scandal----you weren't looking for that in the same sentence were you? Yeah, I feel a little nauseous too just thinking about it.

The whole Vince-Bret thing was lame. When Vince stepped into the ring, Bret should have clocked him and walked out. The crowd would have went nuts.

Stampede Wrestling was one of the best things going! I used to go on Friday nights whenever I was in Calgary and I tried to never miss a Tuesday night show at the auditorium.

Please don't compare GSP to Bret Hart. What GSP does is real. He is not an actor unlike Bret and every other wrestler. You can't even compare MMA to wrestling.
