Darian Speaks

Riders quarterback Darian Durant has made his first public statements since Friday's firing of Head Coach Greg Marshall and offensive co-ordinator Doug Berry. Thanks to Rob Vanstone of the Regina Leader-Post for providing this.

Your thoughts on what was said are more than welcome.

Wow! what a great interview. Not the usual cliche stuff. Go positive outlook going forward.

ok, all I've seen Durant do so far this year is complain about the guys they lost and look totally like this is the last place he wants to play. If he doesn't start playing now his head should be the next to roll.......and speaking of that, how does Ritchie Hall not get the axe? any high school team can score on his defense. It's no fluke that Edm gets better after he leaves.

Read between the lines in Darian's comments. Some are eye-openers. 1. "it was a little bit more than the amount of games that they were able to coach. Things going on behind the scenes". 2. "We never wanted Coach Miller to leave". 3. "It would of been nice to have a middle-man to talk to".
Obviously the players just didn't respond to these 2 coaches. Darian's comments were guarded, but you can tell the players love Ken Miller and were devasted when he left. Any new head coach would have a tough time coming into that situation. Also, I still believe that Darian misses Crandell, and needs a QB coach. I'm wondering what Danny McManus is up to? He would be a great mentor, even-keel personality, and he threw alot of INTs too! Groom him to be a future OC for the team. Just a thought. Mr. Vanstone asked great questions as usual, and Darian was politically correct in the answers. Like I said..read between the lines.

Darian is taking the high road in this interview. He has every avenue to throw Berry and Marshall under the bus, but is choosing not to. That is character.

You're right Ed. And while we are at it, why don't we fire the rest of the coaching staff...and Getzlaf and Nunn and Hill. Let's not forget Clermont. He's always been slow. Stu Foord looks like a hippy with that hair. Cut. Lance Frazier should go to. He couldn't cover a bow legged asthmatic elementary school receiver. The water boy's water hasn't been cold enough lately. Send him packing. Miller and Taman should go as well. They couldn't manage a 7-11. Darian is Nealon Greene. What did we ever see in him. Can his ass. Jim Hopson, he should go to. This team is a financial nightmare in part due to their lack of success in recent years. Oh yah, he "interferes". What a jerk. Mayor Fiacco should leave town too. Where is that damn new entertainment facility already? These things aren't THAT complicated. Who else... Ah hell, just get rid of everyone and start from scratch. Clearly, they have all forgot how to play/coach/manage from last year. It's not like any of them have ever been successful. i have been a season ticket holders for XX years but that's it. I'm not going anymore. That'll send a message.

Give me a F&$%'in break. A high school team?? Dramatic much? Injuries, new personnel and a new system. You will not find anyone who could come in here and transition from an Etch defensive system short of Etch himself. As for Edmonton w/ Hall as head coach. Danny Maccocia. That is all.

Berry's play call has been erratic, confusing and incompatible with Darian. Darian is struggling. We need to ADD a QB coach, not fire more people. He will rebound. Mashall could/would not inspire the troops. Not his philosophy. This team apparently needs "rah-rah".

Let's see if this round of firings makes a change before we start virtual firing more people.

There, I feel better!

For those of you that say Danny McManus should
come here to coach in some capacity - are you
nuts???? Why would anyone want to come to
this disorganized, chaotic situation???????

Kerry, you forgot about the guy that took the team photo. Why should he slip under the radar? Fire him too.
I'm hoping that this offense can string together some first downs and give Richie's defence a few breathers. Maybe that will help them.

Rider fans are all the same. What has Durant done? Crucial interceptions in the last 2 Grey cups. Oh and Marshall was not the coach. Oh but he took us to the last 2 grey cups, in a 4 team western conference. Big deal. Hes an average QB at best. But here hes a hero cause hes a Rider. What a joke.

Hey Kerry, a lot of what you said in that long long first paragraph was correct :Miller and Taman should go as well. They couldn't manage a 7-11 - correct:Let's not forget Clermont. He's always been slow -correct again. Mayor Fiacco should leave town too -lol correct as well.

One thing I can't agree with is the defense with Mr Hall, we fire the offensive coach because people on offense are struggling as you said but it's ok for the defense to struggle just cause we have Ritch as the coach?

Kerry said...

Whatever Ed...sorry my paragraph was too long for you. It's hard to fire everyone succinctly. Your message: If you have had past successes, your failures nullify them regardless of circumstance. I'd hate to be your kid! If Richie does succeed, I'm sure you'll have reasons as to why he doesn't deserve the credit. I'd ask you the more important question..i.e. who do you replace everyone with to guarantee success. Please don't answer, I could care less...

Hey Kerry.....I'm loving this s*&t, it really gets you going doesn't it? Are you the Ritchie Hall fan club pres or just an Etch hater. Regardless, any team that does as well defensively as they have in the past then can't stop BC or TO is not going in the right direction and no matter how snotty your defense of the defense is.....they still stink. Calm down, have a beer and chill otherwise when their 1 and 12 you'll have a break down....if ya don't have one before then.

Kerry said...

You're loving this? I'm kinda getting bored with it. I'm pretty sure this gets you going more than I though...Calm people don't fire everyone and they don't predict 1-12 because of Hall. Never said Richie was the best. Just see him as more successful than you do. Never hated on Etch. Wish he had stayed alongside Richie. Your reaction...Knee-jerk. Throw the baby out with the bath water. Not what I'd call calm. If they don't turn it around. So be it. It's not like it's my life or anything. It's just a game. I'll still be in the stands. As for BC and TO...24 points given up with a non-existent offense. Most would actually call that not bad. But hey...keep insisting they can him. I'm sure they're listening.
