CBC brings Canadians the beautiful game with all 64 matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, live and on demand, in high definition. Coverage of the FIFA World Cup will be provided across all platforms including CBC News, CBC Radio, CBC Sports.ca/fifaworldcup and the availability of the World Cup on CBC app for iPhone and iPod Touch. Plus, CBC's digital channel bold is moving to high definition, just in time for World Cup coverate. All 64 matches will be available in high definition on bold HD from June 11 to July 11, including eight exclusive live games. In a Canadian television first, CBC will present the third place and Final matches from the World Cup in spectacular 3D.
On Friday, June 11 CBC kicks-off coverage with the Opening Ceremony from the newly reconstructed Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Gemini Award-winner Scott Russell will host CBC's afternoon and prime time broadcasts, while MLS on CBC's Mitch Peacock will host the morning edition of World Cup Today. Both programs will feature live coverage of the events as they unfold in South Africa. CBC has assembled an all-star broadcast team including former BBC English Premier League broadcaster, Nigel Reed, former Canadian national team caption, Jason De Vos, Canadian soccer Hall of Famer and President of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Bob Lenarduzzi, and former Celtic midfielder, John Collins - to provide fans with in-depth analysis of all of the action. Reporting from South Africa will be CBC Sports' Brenda Irving and CBC News journalist and internationally acclaimed author Kim Brunhuber.
Fans can catch every game from the tournament live and on-demand at cbcsports.ca/fifaworldcup, as well as video highlights, feature stories and blogs from expert journalists stationed across each continent, a detailed history of all the players and teams participating in the tournament, classic FIFA moments and front line reports from South Africa. Saphia Khambalia will host Pulse of the Nation, an interactive feature and within CBC's television broadcasts. The segment will engage fans with the World Cup experience online, including the latest buzz from the worlds of Facebook and Twitter, viewer comments, shared photos and videos and more.
In addition to world class on-air coverage CBC Sports will be offering both free and premium versions of a brand new app for iPhone and iPod Touch - 2010 FIFA World Cup on CBC. The free app will offer fans the latest news and analysis, live scores and match details, schedules and standings, photo galleries, blogs and more. The premium offering will be available for $4.99 with additional features including daily video reports and breaking news, team and player profile videos, morning previews and interviews from the venues, pre-game, halftime and post-game shows, evening reports and next-day video previews. Both will be available on the App Store starting Friday, June 11.
CBC News will cover the tournament with a wide range of special features focusing on the politics, culture, economy and social issues of Africa. The National with chief news correspondent Peter Mansbridge will cover the World Cup with correspondent Adrienne Arsenault filing stories from South Africa. Ian Hanomansing in Vancouver and Laurie Graham in Toronto will bring viewers stories from the city streets as Canadians take in the World Cup along with a series of football fan diaries-features about Canadian fans originally from the competing countries.
CBC Radio One will broadcast the last four games from the tournament live; semi-final games will air July 6 and 7, the third place match will air on July 10 and the Final will air on July 11, with each day's coverage starting at 2 p.m. ET with host Matt Galloway.
World Cup Today hosted by Adrian Harewood and Nick Purdon will be heard daily on CBC Radio One, Monday to Friday at 5:50 p.m. local. The program will feature all of the scores and storylines as they unfold, providing in-depth analysis as fans descend on South Africa. World Cup this Week will air on Saturdays from June 12 to July 3.l This show will bring listeners up to date on the developments throughout the week also providing an exploration of the cultural and political aspects of South Africa. And, 'Y Soccer', a 5-part drama depicting the lives of a soccer team who play out of a local Y, will air during the final week.
Fans at home can get involved with CBC Soccer Nation. A soccer festival that launched in Vancouver on May 22 and is crossing the country traveling to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, St. John's, Halifax, Ottawa and Montreal. The family-friendly event includes a soccer pitch where participants can test their soccer skills, take part in drills guided by pros and watch freestylers showcase their talents. Attendees will also be invited to experience interactive zones run by sponsors CIBC, Rogers and Chevrolet, where they will have a chance to win great prizes, participate in fun soccer games and much more.

The CBC app on iTunes is rubbish. The video feature in the Match Day section still say Coming Soon, five days into the competition!
