CFL Power Rankings

Power Rankings
The Vancouver Province
Byline: Lowell Ullrich

1. Montreal: Is it a league rule that Anthony Calvillo has a 75 per cent completion rate every game? Calvillo, Ben Cahoon, Avon Cobourne and Damon Duval once again were a reliable mix against Calgary.

2. Toronto: Think we can finally douse the notion that coaches with a four-down background can't make the adjustments needed to work in the CFL? Bart Andrus and his new staff made out like Marc Trestman in beating Hamilton. Toronto has a running game. Who knew?

3. Saskatchewan: Any questions about their defence now?

4. Calgary: They were deserving losers to Montreal thanks to their ability to self-destruct, but you still get the feeling they may have simply got a bad game out of their system. ST Titus Ryan and LB Tray Blackmon look like early good finds. But Calgary will need to be a bit more sturdy against the run.

5. Edmonton: How would you like to be the doctor who told the Eskimos in the offseason before signing him that Jesse Lumsden's shoulder was fine? Too bad free agent acquisitions don't come with a damaged goods warranty.

6. B.C.: It figured to be a bad night when they flew the Lions flag upside down during the anthem before the game. But stand away from the ledge. You'd think there's only a small chance they could play that poorly two games in a row.

7. Winnipeg: Stefan LeFors wasn't exactly the second coming of Kenny Ploen against Edmonton, but there were some interesting elements to the offence that simply may take time to perfect. Playing your first game at Lake Commonwealth is no way to get a read on your new team if you are new coach Mike Kelly. If only he could find a kicker.

8. Hamilton: It shouldn't have come as a surprise that Hamilton took awhile to get going. Slow starts are part of the Tiger-Cats playbook. They'll be better. The question is whether their fan base will still be around when they do.

Surprised that Lowell picked T.O over the Riders. Guess he wanted to spite the Riders for their win over BC. Hamilton is not a better team than BC.
