Didn't See Those Results Coming

Good morning Rider Nation!!! Its game day and you are getting ready for a little football--albeit early with the 11 AM kickoff. As you start to read this, a little question for you. What result last night left you happier? I--and many others--did not think both the Ti-Cats and Bombers would win their games. I--and many others--am not disappointed with the fact that both BC and Calgary are 0-2.

What is wrong with Calgary??? They seem to have lost their competitive fire as they looked rather lacklustre again in losing to the Bombers 42-30. Has complacency set in?? Has the cockiness of so many that wear the horsey helmets gotten to the point that they feel they don't have to do what is needed anymore to be a championship calibre team? Safe to say John Hufnagel is not a happy man after seeing what happened on the Canad Inns Stadium turf.

Meanwhile, if Wally Buono was embarassed by his team's effort in Regina in Week 1, what does he have to say after getting beat by the Ti-Cats at home in Week 2. Give the Ti-Cats full credit for this one as they never gave up in a game that might pay huge dividends for them down the road. I'm guessing Otis Floyd will be grinning from ear-to-ear for the next couple of days as the former Lions intercepts Buck Pierce as they tried to drive for a game-tying field goal.

What does this all mean? It means the Riders can sit alone atop the West with a victory today in Toronto and be two full games ahead of BC and Calgary early in the season.

As for the Riders, it looks like Arland Bruce will play despite his bout with hemorrhoids. Bruce goes into the game beaking.......

From the Canadian Press

Arland Bruce III plans to stage another end zone celebration should he score a touchdown Saturday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Bruce made the comments Friday following the Argos pre-game walkthrough for their game against the Roughriders at Rogers Centre. But the speedy receiver wouldn't provide specific details.
Bruce was fined earlier this week by the CFL for a stunning celebration after he scored a TD in a 30-17 season-opening win in Hamilton. After hauling in a Kerry Joseph scoring strike, Bruce quickly stripped his helmet and pads and laid down on the field as if in a coffin as part of a mock burial to honour the death of former pop star Michael Jackson.
The on-field officials weren't amused, issuing two objectionable conduct penalties for his antics.
The day after the game, Bruce formally apologized to his teammates and coaches during a team meeting.
Argos head coach Bart Andrus said Friday that Bruce hasn't shared details of his planned celebration with him.

What's Bruce going to do. Hand out Preparation H to those with sideline seats. Eat some grapes perhaps!!! Maybe he will don a Murray McCormick mask!!!! Just concentrate on getting into the endzone first there Arland.

As you know game time is 11 AM. Gord Miller and Matt Dunigan will call it for you. Gord Miller???? A hockey guy doesn't know anything about the CFL does he!!! Is Gord going to expect Pierre McGuire to be working the sidelines????? Does Gord think if Cuthbert can do it than so can I. OK, I'm just having a little fun at Gord's expense. Besides if Cuthbert can call both football and hockey than so should Miller. Why didn't anyone ask Vic Rauter to step behind the mike!!!!! Perhaps he's over at the Toronto Indy.

Don't forget Milt Stegall makes his TSN debut today. Will the panel be at Rogers Centre? I only ask that because we all know what happened the last time Stegall and the Riders were on the Rogers Centre turf together.

CFL head of officiating Tom Higgins had to be screaming at his TV and perhaps his officials Friday night. I thought there were two calls --one in each game--that should have been made. Then again, John Hufnagel and Marcel Bellefeuille are just as guilty for not asking for a challenge. In the Calgary-Winnipeg game, it was clear to me Winnipeg's Siddeeq Shabazz stepped out at the three on what was an interception return for a touchdown. In the Hamilton-BC game, it was pretty clear Paris Jackson had the ball slip through his fingers and hit the turf on his touchdown "catch" in the 1st quarter.
------
I've always said the perfect game might be the most difficult thing to do in sports. Jonathan Sanchez of the Giants didn't throw one last night, but he did throw a no-hitter. Thanks to centerfielder Aaron Rowand reaching to catch one at the top of the fence in the top of 9, Sanchez threw the first no-hitter of the 2009 season over San Diego.
------
Here's a thought for you. If Roy Halladay gets traded by the Blue Jays, when you consider who owns the Jays, will you be able to call the deal a "blockbuster"??? Think about it!!!!!
------
If you're a Riders fan and a UFC fan, today is a huge day for you. The football game this morning and UFC 100 tonight. What more do you want??? I'll throw up some predictions on tonight's card later today after the football game if I get a chance.
------
The wife went car shopping today. It meant having to tour a few car lots. What happened to the day when salesmen were on you like crows on a dead pigeon? We were actually at one place for about 20 minutes checking over the vehicles without one person bothering us. AMAZING!!!
------
The Tim Hortons commercial featuring "Wrapman" was bad the first time around, and its even worse now. Is there any Tim Hortons commercial that doesn't revolve around hockey that's remotely entertaining.
-----
Geroy Simon is a great receiver, but that touchdown pose is still stupid!!
-----
A Spanish man was fatally gored at "The Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain. Its the first death at this event since 1994. Really??? I thought there would have been more. Is there anything more stupid than this event......besides the July 4 hot dog eating contest. I definitely root for the bulls. Why wouldn't you???
-------
Enjoy the football game!!!!

It doesn't hurt my feelings that both the Stamps and Leos are 0-2. Personally, I'd like to see them both winless until they face each other.
Reality is...the changes are affecting them more than they are letting on. That is how it goes. Give them both a few games, then they'll be playing much better

Pilsner Paul says

1)The Riders beat the Argos 35-20 today with FANTOOOOOOOOOZ having a huge afternoon.

2)Seeing Burris and Buono both at 0-2 is great, but I know that won't last

3)GSP is going to kick Alves' ass tonight.

4)I can't decide if Geroy Simon or Arland Bruce is the bigger knob

5)I love your blog!!! I wish CKRM would smarten up and hire you.

CFL officiating stinks period. They can't even get the call right when it should be overturned. ex: The Copeland touchdown that got placed at the one. Its either a TD or he's out of bounds at the three. How can it be at the one!!!

Riders 26 Toronto 22
