CFL POTW Wk 2/Home Run Derby

The CFL players of the week will come out later today. Here are my top three performers of the week---for what its worth

Offence
1)Anthony Calvillo-Montreal. Calvillo continues to show why he is the best quarterback in the league. The reigning MOP threw for 343 yards and 2 TD's in the win over Edmonton

2)Deandra Cobb-Hamilton. The Ti-Cats needed a running game with Kenton Keith, Terry Caulley and Tre Smith all out of the lineup. Cobb gave them that in BC as he ran for 100 yards and caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown in Hamilton's big win over the Lions

3)SJ Green-Montreal. Green, subbing in for the injured Jamel Richardson, finally got his chance to play after languishing on the practice roster for most of last season. He made the most of that chance catching five balls for 118 yards and a TD.

Defence

1)Stevie Baggs-Saskatchewan. His exploits against the Argos have been discussed and were quite visible for everyone to see Saturday. His spin move against Rob Murphy resulting in a safety touch was simply a thing of beauty.

2)Siddeeq Shabazz-Winnipeg. Shabazz was one of the reasons why it was difficult for Henry Burris and his Calgary mates to do his thing. Just when it looked as if Burris might be ready to start bringing his team back, Shabazz made a big interception that he returned for what basically was a game clinching TD.

3)Keron Williams-Montreal. He had a pair of sacks in Montreal's one sided win over the Eskimos while basically stopping the Edmonton running game.

Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers won the home-run derby last night as baseball gets ready for its all star game which goes tonight. The home-run derby used to be alright, but its gotten stale. You can only watch for so long to see how far someone will hit the baseball. Maybe part of the reason that I think this event has gotten stale is because ESPN's Chris Berman is starting to wear thin on yours truly. How many times must he yell "back, back, back, back, gone!". Does he spend the day looking for suburbs of the city where the game is so he can yell, he's hit that one to__________. Berman used to be near the top of the ladder, but he's not anymore.....at least not in my books. All-star games will have their skills competitions and home runs are more exciting than seeing if a fielder can throw one into a target from the outfield or a bunting competition or something else, but the event to me needs some freshening up.

I love evening rainstorms when the rain just comes pelting down.
------
I hate dropping a tee shot just 5 feet from the pin and then lipping out on the birdie putt. ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
------
I was listening to CKRM's Sportsline Monday night and Hugh Charles was the guest. Hugh says he needs a nickname. Hmmmmmmm!!!!!!
-------
Tony Romo has broken up with Jessica Simpson!!! How will we be able to survive this??!!
------
Jacques Lemaire is heading back to the New Jersey Devils. GREAT!!! The first time Lemaire coached the Devils, the neutral zone trap brought them a Stanley Cup. Does this mean Zach Parise will lead the team in scoring with 50 points?? Does this mean Martin Brodeur gets 19 shutouts?? This is not good news for the NHL.
------
People are making wayyyyyy too much over Brock Lesnar's post-fight actions at UFC 100. At least they are as far as I'm concerned.
-----
The Cubs are said to be interested in former Blue Jay BJ Ryan. NOOOOOOO!!!!!! This is not good news for this Cubbies fan who has basically already come to grips with the fact that the drought continues.

Shabaazz beat out Baggs for Defensive POW. Who are the braindeads who made the picks? They need to sue their brains for non-support.
