Riders QB Shuffle Continues

Riders head coach Corey Chamblin announced Wednesday afternoon Kevin Glenn has been put on the six game injured list. Glenn suffered a torn pectoral injury that Chamblin says will not require surgery.

It means Brett Smith will become the 6th Rider quarterback to start a game since last year's Banjo Bowl as he joins Darian Durant, Glenn, Tino Sunseri, Kerry Joseph and Seth Doege.

Chamblin said another quarterback would be brought in and it appears that quarterback could be Blake Sims. Those who follow US College Football closely would know Sims was the quarterback of the Alabama Crimson Tide who were the number one ranked team in college football until getting knocked off by the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl.

Sims spent one year as QB of the Tide and in that one year, he completed 64 and a half percent of his passes, threw 28 TD's, 10 INTS and had just under 3500 yards passing.

Old blowhard Jim, who is seemingly an expert on every sports topic imaginable, was actually right today.

Don't trade for another quarterback. Let these guys come in and learn the game and lets see who is Darian's backup next year. Hell, one of these guys could be the starter if Darian doesn't come back and I'm not 100 percent he will.

Price has a good pedigree as does Sims and we know nothing about Smith. Let them work with Chap's offense and lets see what happens.

Taman and Chamblin sold their souls to the devil for 2013. Let them feel the heat now, then fire them both.

Hey Scruffy, I'm sending this to you because I don't believe RP would post it and I hope you will.

I've been bleeding green since the mid-fifties. It was sweet when George and Ronnie won the cup in '66. We would have liked another one in that era but we knew we couldn't compete with the big cities. Then came what seemed like an eternity of Eskimo championships because they had the best stadium and the biggest crowds so Hugh Campbell could buy championships. We knew that's how it was and we were okay with it, we were the "lovable losers" and we were just damn glad to have a team. Finally the league instituted a phony salary cap that was full of loopholes so teams could use personal contracts etc. none of which we could afford. We even persevered through the "Doug Flutie era" when the league decided that his enormous contract didn't count because he was in Toronto. We still supported our Riders and all we wanted was a good effort, and we normally got it. We are now the most affluent team in the league and could be buying championships except the league finally has a real 'salary cap' and it should be an even playing field. We did well for the first ten years of that plan but then the wheels fell off.

This is the first time in my memory I've ever been upset with the Riders organization. I wonder how bad it's got to get before the 'powers to be' realize they're pissing it away with poor personal in important positions.

Until the BOD cleans out the top end we're going to remain losers, the trouble is we're no longer the 'loveable losers'. At the current rate they won't even sell out the very first game in the new stadium. Other than Weston Dressler they don't have a product to sell right now.

Talk of trading for Ricky Ray is ridiculous.

At 0-5, the chances of making the playoffs are slim. I don't see Glenn being back after this year and I was against the return of Sunseri because he has had more than a chance and has shown he can't play. Price, Sims and Smith are the guys this team needs to look at. Darian has done tremendous things for this organization, but his body is starting to wear down and having someone ready to roll for 2017 or 18 is paramount. Patience is the key both for the organization, the fanbase and the players themselves. Darian was 3rd stringer for how long? Whoever comes through needs to realize they aren't starting next year and learn and learn under the current coaching staff.

That is my two cents!

Old Fan's brain may have worn out!

Does he not remember the Grey Cup in 2013, then the eight and one start and then the tragic loss of Durant for the rest of 2014?

Has he not taken a gander at the injury list and shook his head of all the great Rider talent lost this season in "important positions" due to injury? Or does he live in a fantasy world that thinks that the second-stringer is as good as the first-stringer?

Has he not been impressed that despite the injuries the Riders almost pulled off some wins? Can he not at least appreciate how we did have the number one offense under Glenn and that there is emerging stars on the defense like rookies Tyree Hollins, Jake Doughty and Jeff Knox Jr.

Old Fan needs to stop wasting his time whining about the "organization", it is a pointless exercise, and get out to the games and support the players trying their best to win a game despite incredible adversity.

There is NO evidence that Durant's body is wearing down. He is still young and healthy and can be performing at a high level for years to come like Ray and Burris.
The nature of his injuries are not related to being worn out. They are freak injuries that can happen to any player at any age or stage of their career, pro or college.

When i watched Simms last year, I thought he had CFL QB written all over him. Reminds me of Condredge Holloway who also went to an SEC School. Let's see what he can do if given the right chance.

Old Hank; We aren't getting an effort from the defense. Through all the tough years prior that was the one thing everybody wanted and got. An effort. I have no problem with the offense but the heart has been torn out of the defense and they're just going through the motions. Chick has a grand total of one sack. Brackenridge still has to make his first solo tackle (he's had a couple of collisions but no tackles). There is just no effort and that's what's bugging me. So you go ahead and blindly buy whatever Taman, Chamblin and Pedersen are selling you but I'm not buying.
