After watching the years pass by since his last NFL regular season game in December 2011, former Texas Longhorns quarterback Vince Young is in Regina to reportedly finalize a deal with the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The former national championship standout and No. 3
overall pick in 2006, Young’s career as a professional initially
appeared to be following suit with his historical status among the
college ranks. As a rookie with the Tennessee Titans, Young was named
the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and more impressively, a
year-one Pro Bowl selection.
But for a variety of reasons, on- and
off-field issues plagued Young’s career early on and within five
seasons, his time in Tennessee concluded.
Young went on to play in six games with the Philadelphia
Eagles in 2011, including three starts, but later comeback attempts with
the Buffalo Bills (2012), Green Bay Packers (2013) and Cleveland Browns
(2014) never panned out, as Young was unable to make it past training
camp cuts.
Young finished his shortened NFL career with 8,964 yards
and 46 touchdowns through the air and another 1,459 yards and 12 scores
with his legs.
Once his contract with the Roughriders is finalized, the soon to be 34-year-old Young will, at last, get his shot at football redemption in
just a few months, as the CFL’s season runs from June through November.

It used to be fun to be a Roughrider fan. Now it's just embarrassing.
