Another Pro Wrestler Dies

If you are a WWE fan like me, you will remember the wrestler known as "Test". He was the guy who was supposed to marry Stephanie MacMahon until Triple H intervened in what had to be one of the funniest skits ever in a WWE ring. Test's name was Andrew Martin and he was found dead Friday night in his Tampa apartment. Martin was just 33. He had been out of wrestling since 2007. Yes, these guys make lots of money but the abuse they put on their bodies both doing their thing in the ring and what they put in it is something else. If you ever get the chance to read Bret Hart's book do so even if you are not a wrestling fan as it puts the lives of these guys into perspective. You can now sadly add his name to a long list of those in his profession who left this world way too soon. Names like Chris Benoit, Brian Pillman and Eddie Guerrero jump out first and foremost but there are many---way too many.

Kevin Martin and Glenn Howard treated curling fans to a classic contest Thursday night and Friday’s game wasn’t far behind. Once again it went down to the final rock as Martin barely got a big enough chunk of the four foot to beat Glenn Howard 7-6 in an extra end. It means Martin will go to Sunday’s final. He will play either Howard, Jeff Stoughton or Brad Gushue. Howard will play the winner of the Stoughton-Gushue this morning later tonight. Chances are curling fans can get ready for Martin-Howard 3 and chances are it will come right down to the last rock again.

Just one more game for the Pats. They were beaten 6-3 in Swift Current Friday night as the Broncos scored four times in what was a wild final 20 minutes. Derek Tendler got the start in goal as he gets some more WHL experience under his belt as you know it will be Damien Ketlo and Tendler guarding the goal next season. Andrew Reider, who is Tendler’s teammate on the Regina Pat Canadians, had one of the Regina goals. The two teams will go at it tonight at the Brandt Centre in a 7 o’clock start. I heard someone say today you might want to go to the game because it will be the last time you see Jordan Eberle in a Pats uniform as he will be in an Oilers uniform next year. Hey, I’m a huge Jordan Eberle fan but Pat fans can enjoy one more season of him because he won’t be playing for the Oil next year. The Blades lost 5-4 in a shootout to Prince Albert meaning they fail to break the league record for most road wins. There was good news though as the Blades did clinch the East pennant with a victory. One that comes thanks to Stefan Elliott’s goal with just six and a half seconds to play. The win also kept Prince Albert’s playoff chances alive. They are now tied for the last playoff spot with Edmonton. The Raiders are in Saskatoon tonight while the Oil Kings start a home and home against the Rebels in Red Deer.

Peter Pocklington is out on bail and he can thank the man who coached his Oilers to several Stanley Cups. Glen Sather has come to Pocklington’s rescue as he posts bail of one million dollars (US). Pocklington was arrested and charged with bankruptcy fraud Wednesday, and faces up to 10 years in a federal prison.

The NHL awards are headed to Las Vegas. (I hope Rick Tocchet’s invitation gets lost in the mail)They will go June 18. Is this the start of something bigger for the NHL in Sin City???

I should have thought about this when I was co-hosting the Drew Remenda Sports Show. It comes from Miami…

Has 790 The Ticket's Dan Le Batard really been considering taking human growth hormone as a radio experiment? Yes, with the intent of telling listeners how it affects his body. Le Batard always has said the outcry over athletes taking performance-enhancing drugs is excessive.
If that name sounds familiar, you can see Le Batard on “Pardon the Interruption” quite a bit as he fills in for either Michael Wilbon or Tony Kornheiser. By the way, I know many out there don’t like Kornheiser but I love the guy. I really enjoy his work on PTI and on Monday Night Football.

Saskatoon already has direct flights to Denver and soon they will to Chicago and Regina doesn’t have either. HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!

Do Reginans really have to drive 2 ½ hours to go non stop to either of those two American cities. If I have to I will but I’d rather just take a cab from Casa Blair to the Regina airport.

Look at what Claude Lemieux started……

C’mon Ron. You are not shooting a Diet Pepsi ad. Stop reliving your youth!!!!

Sacramento Kings rookie Donte Greene is a guy I don’t think you would want to mess with. In a season-long series of punishments for rookies failing to execute their locker room duties, Greene's car recently was filled with popcorn, and teammate Bobby Jackson was believed to be the culprit. Against his better judgment or NBA credo, Greene retaliated Thursday by dousing the outside of Jackson's white Mercedes with a mixture of dog food, soy sauce and condiments that sent a stench emanating from the car and sent Jackson into a locker room rant not likely to go unresolved. Dog food, soy sauce and condiments eh…..HMMMMMM!!!!!
