Before getting to Jeremy Roenick and the Vancouver Canucks advancing to the Western Conference final, a hearty congratulations goes out to one of the good guys and that is Regina Rams quarterback Marc Mueller. As was reported on the blog yesterday, Mueller has signed on with the Edmonton Eskimos. I sincerely hope Mueller gets a decent shot at showing why he can be a CFL quarterback and that his signing isn't a publicity stunt. Sooner or later, a Canadian quarterback has to play the Canadian game and I can think of no better candidate than the grandson of the great Ron Lancaster.

Jeremy Roenick is taking a lot of heat for his comments about Patrick Marleau in Game 5 of the San Jose-Detroit series. Roenick (see a couple of posts below) went after Marleau and called him gutless after his performance. Yeah? So what! I hear people out there talk about how they want honesty and they hate cookie-cutter answers. Roenick does what he is supposed to do, he gives an opinion like it or not. There are some in this game that doesn't want to ruffle any feathers for fears of repercussion, but guys like Roenick get it and they deliver the words that some might not want to hear. I'm sure Laker fans had to be cringing when Magic Johnson cut down the team after their loss to Dallas on Sunday but he gets a free pass from some Laker fans because of his many years with the team. Had it been someone like Jeff Van Gundy, Mark Jackson or Jalen Rose making those comments, there would have been hatred spewed there too. Look at the Theoren Fleury-Vancouver Canucks story in the first round of these playoffs. Why is Charles Barkley revered by so many? Why is Don Cherry revered by so many? Its because they don't hold back and they state an opinion. If you like it, fine, if you don't, too f*in bad. Sharks broadcaster Randy Hahn fired back at Roenick via Twitter saying many bridges had been burned with the comments. I thought Randy's partner on TV (Drew Remenda) might have something to say on his show Monday night, but he mysteriously and strangely inconspicuous. I guess the days of pre-tape are no longer an issue. That's too bad because I wanted to hear how Drew who staunchly defends the NHL team he works for would react to this. It was a night when I wanted to hear about the Sharks and delivery did not result. Oh well!

I think a lot of Regina hockey fans have gone over the top when it comes to criticizing the Pats for their buy a season ticket this week and get an Elton John ticket promotion. Brent Parker is a punching bag for people in this community and will continue to be for quite a while I'm guessing, but on this one I have to stand up for the beleaguered Pats GM. As CTV's Chris Hodges stated so eloquently on Monday during the Sportscage, if you go to a store and buy an item for 5 bucks and go back 24 hours later and its 1.99, that's too bad for you. A sale has to start sometime. The Pats are giving those who are sitting on the fence an enticement to buy a season ticket and a rather nice enticement as well. Could they have given you some more time? Perhaps, but when did they take possession of the tickets. I don't think its any secret that the hockey team is struggling to sell tickets right now and Cliff Mapes or whoever came up with a pretty good idea to sell some. Don't give Parker the gears over this one.

The Canucks are on to the 3rd round. I let it be known on Twitter with about 7 minutes left that it was time for Luongo to give up that last minute goal that he's become famous for but he closed the door this time. Will it be Detroit or San Jose now? No matter who it is, methinks the Canucks are off to the SC finals.

Nothing wrong with Charlie Daniels singing the US anthem before Game 6 last night, but one has to ask if Mrs. Fisher was ever asked or if she was just too busy to do it herself. I'm thinking Carrie Underwood (who while she looks good, I am no fan of) would have really gotten that place going had she come out to belt the Star-Spangled Banner or play a song or two before the game but she didn't. You would have to guess the team would have asked her. I'd be shocked if she threw an appearance fee back at them.

No surprise to learn Clarke Breitkreuz and Robbie Ciolfi will be wearing Humboldt colours in 2011-2012. The two members of the Yorkton Terriers are joining the Broncos for their RBC run (Humboldt is the host if you didn't know) as the futures in the deal that brought Jeremy Boyer and Justin Buzzeo to Yorkton in January in a deal that came one game away from having it go the way Yorkton wanted. Both of these players will make Humboldt a very good team and Dean Brockman is just getting started.

Heres hoping Mueller can hold a clipboard in Edmonton and get into a few series at Taylor Field in that first exhibition game.
I hear what you are saying with Parker and the Pats, but there's something seedy there. I don't know what it is, but there's something seedy.

Truth be known, Marleau is playing like a Swedish twin.
Congrats to Marc. A door has opened up for him and its up to him to make the most of his opportunity. His chances are slim, but he has one.

Any night in which we don't hear Drew Remenda is a good night as far as I'm concerned. I don't know how you could work with the guy for as long as you did and I don't know how Jamie can deal with the guy. Atrocious doesn't even start to describe his efforts.
Randy

"The Canucks are on to the 2nd round"
EDIT: 3rd Round...
And I agree--- Canucks VS. Boston in the finals.
Canucks in 7
Protect Parker all you want, but I'm not walking down the Yellow Brick Road. One night of entertainment compared to 36 nights of wishing I were somewhere else. No thanks!
I'm with Randy and I'm with JR. This isn't the first time Marleau has played like dog crap. They took the "C" away from him and word is he rejected a trade to Toronto because he would have been reunited with Wilson. This guy plays to the beat of his own drum and when you add him to a guy like Heatley, you know the Sharkies aren't coming close to a Cup.
