Riders Sign Four To Roster
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have signed import defensive back Derek Pegues, import receiver Dominic Bolden, import offensive lineman Devin Tyler and non-import offensive lineman Josh Buttrill. The financial details of the signings were not released.
Pegues (5’10 – 200 lbs) spent four seasons at Mississippi State where he played in 48 career collegiate games and finished his career with 146 tackles and 12 interceptions for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 112 kick returns for 2,498 yards which was a new SEC record and 79 punt returns for 792 yards and two touchdowns. The 24-year-old was named to the All-SEC team once and the All-SEC team twice at Mississippi State.
Bolden (5’10 – 187 lbs) spent a portion of last season with the B.C. Lions after signing with the team as a free agent. Prior to that, Bolden attended a mini-camp for the Jacksonville Jaquars. The 24-year-old spent four seasons at Liberty where he became a full-time starter in his senior year. He surpassed the 1,000 receiving mark that season as he had 56 receptions for 1,056 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games. Bolden also specialized in kickoff returns as he averaged 29 yards on 49 returns in his senior year.
Tyler (6’7 – 300 lbs) most recently spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and originally was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens. Tyler played four years at Temple where in his freshman year made the switch from defensive end to offensive tackle. In his senior year he was selected to the All-MAC second-team and was named the team’s 2009 Offensive MVP. The 24-year-old was also the recipient of the team’s 2009 Carlos Diaz Award as the most improved player.
Buttrill (6’6 – 315 lbs) has spent the last four seasons with the Western Ontario Mustangs. Last season he took part in the East West Bowl and was named an OUA First Team All-Star.
