I've been a little out of it for the past 24-36 hours, but there are a couple of things I want to comment on so here goes.
--My interest in the NHL has been waning again this year for whatever reason. However, if I could see more games like the Boston-Montreal tilt on Wednesday, I would be hooked again. That was one of the best games I have seen in a long time. It had it all--including a goalie fight. Everyone was happy with the exception of the two coaches who were disgusted because the defensive style that has become all so infamous with the game disappeared.
--There is talk on this Friday morning that Brett Favre will be on the next season of "Dancing with the Stars". Someone please tell me this isn't going to happen. Then again, as a friend of mine has pointed out, the way he danced around retirement over the last few years, he might be a natural.
--Congrats to Derek "Duke" Meyers who I think hit a homer on Day 1 of being a sports talk show radio host. The Global TV sportscaster seemed right at home yesterday as he hosted "Sportscage" in place of the vacationing Rod Pedersen. He was no Bob McCown, but then again who is. One of the questions he asked was "Who is the most powerful sports figure in Saskatchewan?". I didn't hear all the answers, but the guy I would put at the top of that list is Jim Hopson.
--For those wondering why Duke is sitting in Rod's chair and not me while he is in Jamaica, the reason is simple. I have SJHL business to attend to on the road and could not do it. If the dates co-operate, I will gladly get in the chair to yak sports, but when you can't, you can't.
--For those who have not gotten an answer from Rod on the departure of Bill Toffan from the WOLF and are now asking me, I can't shed any light or share any news on the situation.
--Good luck to all Saskatchewan athletes heading to the Canada Winter Games. To get complete results of what is happening at the Games, go to www.canadagames.ca.
--Is it just me or are CFL teams overpaying. 125 thousand for Chris Bauman. 150 thousand for Alex Gauthier. Teams know what the cap is and if they can pay that amount and still be under, that's great, but I am left to wonder.
--It didn't take long for SGI to find a new spokesperson for the renewing your licence plates online campaign. I see Chris Getzlaf has taken over for Andy Fantuz. Is Getzlaf Flakes next?? I really believe he will be the beneficiary of Andy's leaving and so will Jordan Sisco.
--Now that the temperature is back to around the freezing mark, can we please stay like this or at least not have another wild swing where its around freezing one day and minus 30 the next. That has been killing a few people lately that have asthma including me. Trust me on that one!
--Have Regina police or Regina RCMP put out a missing persons release on Dan McIntosh's hair? I watched the CTV sports last nite and did a triple-take when I saw that Danny Mac---Regina's best and most entertaining reporter as far as I'm concerned -- hasn't had it shaved to the wood, but its close. This from a guy who was on a couple of weeks ago to which Mrs. Scruffy said "Dan needs a haircut". He got one alright---and then some.
--Global is asking people to describe their street. I missed the original story on this so I don't know where they are going, but if I had to describe my street, I would say "quiet". If I had to describe the condition of the road on my street, I would say average to above average in the summer and average to below average in the winter.
--The CFL Hall of Fame will see Don Matthews, Danny MacManus, Joe Montford and Terry Vaughn going in. Chris Flynn is going in as well. ??????? Yes, he is a three time winner of the Hec Crighton award (CIS MVP), but did he ever play a down in the CFL? Wasn't he a quarterback on the World League's Montreal Machine? Does anyone remember the Montreal Machine?
--I won't be in attendance this year, but the Luther Invitational Basketball Tournament is in my mind one of the best things about Regina. The kids at the school work their tails off to make that tournament the success it is. There may be no louder place than that tiny gym when the finals are on. I did the finals one year for Access and I could hardly hear myself. That type of atmosphere makes it fun.
--I don't think this is a real network, but if it is, someone needs to replace this ditzy little "princess" and quickly....
I would expect something like this coming from someone in a j-school who doesn't know any better (even though they should if speaking in front of a camera), but if this person has gotten a job than there is something wrong. She makes people like Sara Orlesky, Martine Gaillard, Kate Beirness, Hannah Storm, etc, etc look bad.
--I don't know if this is real, but this is funny!!!!
Have a great Friday and a great weekend! Its going to be nice so get out there!!

Harry Balls can't be real. If it is, hats off to everyone who got through that without cracking up.
I have heard of Chris Flynn, but what or who is Gino Fracas?
Chris G
Mitch,
You should ask your readers for their ideas for Rider Food Products ("Mak"owski and Cheese) and maybe the best one will get produced this year!
Gino Fracas was an olinemen who blocked by crossing your wrists in an X.Upon conact swing elbows in an upward motion with wrist that were up are now in the opposite direction.OLD SCHOOL BLOCKING going back to the days of Ted Urness.
I was never a Bill Toffan fan so I couldn't care less. I'd love to see Vinnie return to Regina. That guy was the best announcer I've ever heard. Even Trapper at the WOLF thought so.

How many people remember the 1990 Vanier Cup...TSN's Michael Landsberg "Saskatchewan vs the (St. Mary's) Huskies...Chris Flynn this, Chris Flynn that"? I still lose my lunch every time I hear those immortal words.
